Kingfishers open water squad

Established in 1979, the Kingfishers Open Water Squad has a rich history of success, boasting national champions and Grand Prix top finishes. Under the leadership of Head Coach Paula Ambury, the squad trains at Wykeham Lake and Sea, excelling in open water events and relay races. With a strong coaching team and a focus on fundraising, the squad continues to make waves in the open water swimming community.

Kingfishers open water squad – A history • Became part of Kingfisher in 1979 alongside the old Plaxton club. • Formerly know as Scarborough Castle Long Distance Club • Several BLDSA national champions and top 3 finished in yearly Grand Prix serious. • 3 successful Chanel relay events, 1 double relay crossing in 1980’s. • Coached by Maureen Dickinson up to 2 years ago, who is still on board as an advisor • Head Coach now Paula Ambury. • Trains at Wykeham Lake and Sea. • Successfully relaunched local sea swims in 2011 after completion of sea defences.
