VHT BF and MU Capabilities Date: 2011-1-18 Authors:
Discussions for VHT SU-BF Capabilities • One type of BF feedback—only require 1 bit for BFMer and 1 bit for BFMee capabilities. • “Minimal grouping” being the same as 11n. • May be shared with MU feedback capability. • “Ntx for Compressed beamforming feedback” needs one more bit to represent up to 8 Tx antennas. • Also implies number of VHT-LTFs in NDP that the beamformee can receive. • “Chan. Est. Capability” as in 11n is not needed. • CEC in 11n was mainly for staggered sounding, i.e. the capability to buffering extension HTLTFs. • “Ntx for Compressed beamforming feedback” should be sufficient.
Discussions for MU Capabilities • AP Capabilities: • MU AP Capable. • Client Capabilities • MU Client Capable. • Note: an SU-only client cannot receive VHT preamble with GID indicating MU, but only one Nsts is non-zero. • Minimal Grouping and Num of Tx Antennas share the same subfields as SUBF.
Proposed VHT BF and MU Capabilities Note—A STA that sets the MU Rx Capability to 0 is not able to demodulate an MU VHT PPDU with only one non-zero Nsts subfield. Note—“Compressed Steering Number of Beamformer Antennas Supported” field also indicates the maximum number of space time streams in NDP packet that the STA can support as a beamformee.
Pre-motion #1 • Do you agree to add the VHT BF capabilites fields as in slide 4 into a new section 6.x of the spec framework? -Yes -No -Abstain
