  1. Chinese New Year • Chinese New Year, celebrated with the moon, is a honored Chinese tradition. This character is pronounced “fu”. It means lucky.

  3. Food • People often gather their families together for visits. During New years, we often invite friends and family over to have a fest. Below are things that we might eat during a party and the meaning for the food. Candied melon symbolizes growth and good health. Red melon seed dyed red to symbolize joy, happiness, truth and sincerity. Lychee nut symbolizes strong family relationships. Cumquat symbolizes prosperity. (gold) Coconut symbolizes togetherness. Peanuts symbolizes long life. Longnan symbolizes many good sons. Lotus seed symbolizes many children.

  4. Chinese New Year • Brooms and dust pans are put away so that the luck can't be swept out the door.
