Basic Tenets of Catholicism: • Catholicism is based on ritual & tradition dating back to the origins of Christianity: • Catholics must follow the rules/laws of the Pope • Including: • Tithing 10% of your annual income to the Church • Adhering to the 7 Sacraments (baptism, communion, reconciliation, marriage, anointing of the sick, etc…) • Attending Catechism (intensive, weekly, study of Catholicism & the bible) • Catholics must recognize the importance of the clergy in helping to guide their spiritual path towards salvation • Bible & tradition share equal importance in your faith • Mass is given in Latin & practitioners must learn the language
Basic Tenets of Protestantism • Protestantism is based on preaching & achieving a personal relationship with God. • Protestants do not have a superior figurehead but rather, believe Jesus & the Bible are the only Christian authority. • They believe… • In voluntary tithing, though not mandatory • Adhering to the Sacraments, though not as many as Catholicism • Reading the Bible & self-determination of its interpretation • Faith alone will help one achieve salvation • Services are given in the vernacular (local languages)
