Fall Leaves in Watercolor 6th Grade Art
What are leaves all about? • Leaves are little food factories! • Cycle of the Leaf: • Take water from the ground • Take Carbon Dioxide from the air • Sunlight: water + Carbon Dioxide= Oxygen and sugar • Sugar becomes food for leaf, Oxygen becomes “food” for us! • This cycle is called photosynthesis
Green thumb • A chemical called chlorophyll helps photosynthesis happen • This gives the leaves their green color in the summer!
Why do leaves turn colors in the fall? • In the autumn, the nights become longer so the leaves get less sunlight • This slowly stops the creation of Chlorophyll • The yellows, reds, and oranges then come out to shine!
