  1. How is Earth’s surface shaped and reshaped. By Vincent Cheng #6 Room 27 Erosion volcano

  2. Chemical weathering • Causes rocks to change into different materials and breakdown • Substances form when materials mix can break into smaller pieces • Acid rain weathers rock material on Earth’s surface • Water and warm temperatures are important for chemical weathering Grounded rock Rock that has a hole in it

  3. Physical weathering • rocks are broken into smaller pieces, however, only the size of the rock changes • Does not change into new materials. Ex: Plants, Ice, water • If the examples work together rock weathers faster • Glaciers can cause it too. • Glaciers=huge moving sheets of ice creep very slowly over land. Tree cracking rock Rock that cracked

  4. erosion • Erosion is the movement of weathered materials • Wind, water, glaciers, living things and gravity cause erosion erosion

  5. volcanoes Volcano erupting • Can rapidly change earth’s surface • Things have to happen first before an eruption • Volcano=a cone shaped landform that forms at a weak spot in earth’s crust where magma reaches the surface • Magma flowing from a volcano is lava • Some eruptions aren’t violent Lava flow Volcano erupting

  6. earthquakes • Outer layer or crust, is on top of a layer called upper mantle • Divided to large pieces called plates, and the plates move all the time • Fault=a break or crack in rocks where earth’s crust can move • Earthquake=the sudden movement that causes earth’s crust to shake • Vibrations of an earthquake move as waves, and the waves move in all directions Crack House after earthquake
