  1. LORD, TEACH US TO PRAY LUKE 11:1-4

  2. Luke 11:1-4 And it came to pass, as He was praying in a certain place, when He ceased, that one of His disciples said to Him, "Lord, teach us to pray, as John also taught his disciples.'' So He said to them, "When you pray, say: Our Father in heaven, hallowed be Your name. Your kingdom come. Your will be done On earth as it is in heaven. Give us day by day our daily bread. And forgive us our sins, for we also forgive everyone who is indebted to us. And do not lead us into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one.'' God wants us to pray to Him. It can be done In small groups In large groups By yourself It is part of our worship to God. I Timothy 2:8 Therefore I desire that the men pray everywhere, lifting up holy hands, without wrath and doubting;

  3. Elements Of Prayer Prayer— An earnest request; An appeal for Talking to God. Supplication— A humble and earnest request. Ephesians 6:18 Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, being watchful to this end with all perseverance and supplication for all the saints. Intercession— To make a request(s) on behalf of another or others. I Timothy 2:1 Therefore I exhort first of all that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks be made for all men.

  4. Thanksgiving— An expression of gratitude; grateful acknowledgement of something received by or done for one. I Thessalonians 5:17-18 Pray without ceasing, in everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you. Adoration— Praising God for who He is, for what He has done, and for what He will do. Matthew 6:9 Our Father in heaven, hallowed be Your name. Confession— Acknowledgement of our transgres- sion of God’s law. Repentance I John 1:9 If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

  5. Reasons To Pray Evil is present. Matthew 6:13 And do not lead us into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one. I Peter 5:8 Be sober, be watchful. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking some one to devour. When we need something. Philippians 4:6 Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; When someone is sick James 5:13-14 Is anyone among you suffering? Let him pray. Is anyone cheerful? Let him sing psalms.

  6. Is anyone among you sick? Let him call for the elders of the church, and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord. When we confess wrong. James 5:16 Therefore confess your sins to one another, and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous man has great power in its effects. When we need strength. Hebrews 4;14-16 Seeing then that we have a great High Priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our confession. For we do not have a High Priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but was in all points tempted as we are, yet without sin. Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need.

  7. Secrets To Effective Prayer Must direct it to God Acts 12:5 Peter was therefore kept in prison, but constant prayer was offered to God for him by the church. We don’t pray to Jesus We pray through Jesus John 14:13-15 "And whatever you ask in My name, that I will do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If you ask anything in My name, I will do it.” It must be unceasing I Thessalonians 5:17 Pray without ceasing, Some pray only when they feel it.

  8. Must be obedient to God’s will. I John 3:22 And whatever we ask we receive from Him, because we keep His commandments and do those things that are pleasing in His sight. Must be according to God’s will. I John 5:14-15 Now this is the confidence that we have in Him, that if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us. And if we know that He hears us, whatever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we have asked of Him. Luke 11:2 Your will be done On earth as it is in heaven. Must abide in Christ. John 15:7 If you abide in Me, and My words abide in you, you will ask what you desire, and it shall be done for you.

  9. Must be in faith. Mark 11:24 "Therefore I say to you, whatever things you ask when you pray, believe that you receive them, and you will have them.” Must be persistent. Luke 11:5-8And He said to them, "Which of you shall have a friend, and go to him at midnight and say to him, `Friend, lend me three loaves; for a friend of mine has come to me on his journey, and I have nothing to set before him'; and he will answer from within and say, `Do not trouble me; the door is now shut, and my children are with me in bed; I cannot rise and give to you'? I say to you, though he will not rise and give to him because he is his friend, yet because of his persistence he will rise and give him as many as he needs.

  10. Hindrances To Prayer Selfishness James 4:3 You ask and do not receive, because you ask with wrong motives, so that you may spend it on your pleasures. Do you think of God as a vending machine? Hatred Matthew 5:44 "But I say to you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you.” Unwillingness to Forgive Mark 11:25"And whenever you stand praying, if you have anything against anyone, forgive him, that your Father in heaven may also forgive you your trespasses.”

  11. Stinginess Proverbs 21:13 Whoever shuts his ears to the cry of the poor will also cry himself and not be heard. Luke 6:38 "Give, and it will be given to you: good measure, pressed down, shaken together, and running over will be put into your bosom. For with the same measure that you use, it will be measured back to you.'' Doubting James 1:5-7If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him. But let him ask in faith, with no doubting, for he who doubts is like a wave of the sea driven and tossed by the wind. For let not that man suppose that he will receive anything from the Lord;

  12. Our sins Psalms 66:18 If I regard iniquity in my heart, The Lord will not hear. Proverbs 28:9 One who turns away his ear from hearing the law, even his prayer shall be an abomination. I Peter 3:12 For the eyes of the Lord are on the righteous, and his ears are open to their prayers; but the face of the Lord is against those who do evil.'' Isaiah 59:1-2 Behold, the Lord's hand is not shortened, that it cannot save; nor His ear heavy, that it cannot hear. But your iniquities have separated you from your God; and your sins have hidden His face from you, so that He will not hear.

  13. Sin not only closes the Lord’s ears to our prayers, but it also separates us from God In this life and The life to come. HAVE YOU TAKEN CARE OF THE SINS IN YOUR LIFE?
