  1. Boats and Designs - Material is the Most Important There was a time when boats were made using the heaviest and the most durable wood man could find. However, with the passage of time, things have changed and the boat building has evolved in the past few decades. Boat design has evolved, which is why the modern boats are so different. Designing a boat consists of a hull, a propulsion system, navigation system, mechanical system and safety system to name a few. It is a craft that only a chosen few have been able to master and succeed at. Boats are a thing of beauty and more and more people are not learning to appreciate them for what they offer and what they stand for. However, it is the materials used in making the boat that makes the design and look of the boat shine. The sustainability of the materials allows the boat to last long and that is all thanks to the materials used in the making of the boat. Here is what you need to know about boats, their design and the materials that are used to make these boats. Materials Used in the Making of Boats Typically, there are only a few types of materials that are used in building of boats that make sure the boat is sustainable and durable. At the moment, the modern boats are made using the below mentioned materials. Here is a breakdown of each material used in building of a boat. Steel Among the most popular materials used in the making of a boat, steel comes at the top of the list. Even the Marine Controls use steel in almost every form. Steel is often the material of choice for the boat designer because it is relatively affordable than the other materials, it is durable, it is high strength and it has more resistance to abrasion than most materials used. Another reason why steel is used in the making of boats is that it is exceptionally lightweight, which is a must have attribute when it comes to building boats. Aluminum Another material that is preferred by engineers is aluminum. It is preferred because it is lightweight, even more so from steel. Usually boats made from aluminum are considered to be more stable and they are taken to the sea more often. These boats are very fast, thanks to their lightweight construction. They burn less fuel, they have better corrosion resistance and are generally more expensive. Fibre-Reinforced Plastic This may sound strange to you, but boats made with fibre-reinforced plastic are now taking over the market. This material became popular just a few decades ago and it is actually one of the best material to be used for building a boat. This material is exceptionally light, strong and durable. The boats made from the fibre-reinforced plastic are faster than more, it is corrosion free and very watertight. This material is usually used in military boats, but many modern boats are make from this as well. Sure the boats made from fibre-reinforced plastic are expensive but they are worth it.
