  2. What is the gadget? • Is the first atomic bomb tested. • The test was called the trinity test.

  3. Where was it tested? • Good question • New Mexico • Why there? you may ask. • Well I’ll tell you, It was a place with no people around and nothing to destroy. • It is open for tourism twice a year

  4. Why was it referred to as a “fat man type” • It was an implosion type bomb similar to the bomb dropped on Nagasaki, Japan. • It was round and large. • The fat man type might have been named after Winston Churchill. • Or named after Sydney Greenstreet's character in the Maltese Falcon named Kasper Gutman.

  5. What were some of the fears of the bomb? • Incineration of the entire planet. • Lighting the atmosphere on fire.

  6. Who were involved? • Albert Einstein • Enrico Fermi • J. Robert Oppenheimer • Antoine Becquerel • James Chadwick • Marie and Pierre Curie • Leo Szilard • Glenn T. SeaBorg

  7. Was the sand around the blast heated until it was crater of glass ten feet deep and 1,100 feet wide? • Yes

  8. How does the gadget work? As we said the gadget was an implosion type bomb. A core made of uranium or plutonium was compressed by a shockwave until the nuclei of the uranium or plutonium atoms split causing an exothermic explosion. The hydrogen produced by the explosion bombards the uranium until it splits

  9. What were the reactions of the scientists? Their reactions were atomic. J. Robert Oppenheimer said "If the radiance of a thousand suns were to burst at once into the sky, that would be like the splendor of the mighty one... Now, I am become Death, the destroyer of worlds.” It was a quote from the Hindu scripture Bhagavad-Gita Gait
