Bible Lesson: The Trial of Jesus Jesus Caiphas, the high priest false witnesses elders, priests, teachers, guards house of high priest night Judas Temple
They took Jesus to Caiphas, the high priest, and all the chief priests, and teachers of the law came together. They were looking for evidence against Jesus so that they could put him to death, but they could not find any.
They found some who gave this false testimony against him: “We heard him say, ‘I will destroy this man-made temple and in three days will build another, not made by man.’” Yet even then their testimony did not agree.
Then the high priest stood up before them and asked Jesus, “Why don’t you answer? What is this testimony that these men are bringing against you?”But Jesus remained silent.
“I said nothing in secret,” said Jesus. Why ask me? Ask those who heard me.” One of the officials struck him in the face. “Is this how you answer the high priest?” he said.“If I am wrong,” Jesus replied, “tell me. But if I speak the truth, why strike me?”
The high priest asked again, “Are you the Christ, the Son of the Blessed One?”“I am,” said Jesus. “And you will see the Son of Man sitting at the right hand of the Mighty One and coming on the clouds of heaven.” .
The high priest tore his clothes. “Why do we need any more witnesses?” he asked. “You have heard the blasphemy. What do you think?” They all decided he was worthy of death.
Then some began to spit at him; they blindfolded him, struck him with their fists, and said, “Prophesy!” And the guards took him and beat him.
Early in the morning, all the chief priests and the elders of the people came to the decision to put Jesus to death. They tied him up, led him away and handed him over to Pilate, the governor.
When Judas saw that Jesus was condemned, he was filled with remorse and returned the thirty silver coins to the elders. “I have sinned,” he said, “for I have betrayed innocent blood.”“What is that to us?” they said. “That’s your responsibility.”
So Judas threw the money into the temple and left.
Then he went away and hanged himself.
Bible Verses: Hebrews 4:14-15 Therefore, since we have a great high priest who has ascended into heaven, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold firmly to the faith we profess.
Bible Verses: Hebrews 4:14-15 For we do not have a high priest who is unable to empathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are—yet he did not sin.
