Pharmacognostic standardization and phytochemical screening of albizzia lebbeck

Pharmacognostical standardization and phytochemical screening of Albizzia lebbeck leaves were assessed. Transverse section of Albizzia lebbeck leaves shows an upper and lower single horizontal layered epidermis followed by spongy parenchyma on both lower and upper surfaces, parenchymatous cells are thin-walled with intercellular space. Bundle sheath is present surrounding vascular bundle consist 8-10 layers of parenchymatous cells. Phytochemical screening of ethyl acetate, ethanolic and water maceration extracts of leaves shows presence of different chemical constituents like alkaloids, tannins, carbohydrates, flavanoids, proteins and Amino acids. Foaming index is less then 100 which indicate presence of saponins in leaves which finally proves by quantitative determination of total saponin 1.4% and total flavanoids 0.6%. Water soluble extractives are more then alcohol soluble extractives show more water soluble constituents in the leaves.

Anti gastric ulcer activity of Ficus nervosa bark in wistar albino rats

The effect of chloroform, ethyl acetate and ethanolic extract of ficus nervosa bark was investigated in rats to evaluate the anti-ulcer activity by using aspirin, alcohol and pyloric ligation models experimentally induced gastric ulcer. The parameters taken to assess anti-ulcer activity were volume of gastric secretion, pH, free acidity, total acidity and ulcer index. The results indicate that the ethanolic extract 200mg/kg significantly decreases the volume of gastric acid secretion, pH, free acidity, total acidity and ulcer index with respect to standard.

Phytochemical studies and biological activity of Dodonaea Viscosa flowers extract

The main objective of this present work is to find out good pharmacological activities in herbal source with their phytochemical study, which is aimed to investigate of 80% ethanolic extract of Dodonaea Viscosa flowers for their antioxidant, analgesic and cytotoxic activities. Fractionation of this extract led to the isolation of fourteen natural bioactive compounds, among them a novel one was isolated and identified as; 6-OH-kaempferol-3,6-dimethylether4`-glucopyranoside besides 13 known compounds including one kaempferol glycoside, three methylated kaempferol,onequercetin glycoside, five methylated quercetin and three aglycones. All the pure compounds were identified by chromatographic methods, chemical degradation and spectral data (1H NMR, 13C NMR). The 300 µL ethanolic extract concentration showed the most potent antioxidant activity with inhibition % 82.09 ± 0.15 using the DPPH radical scavenging method which is higher than the standard BHA (68.2) and lower than the standard TBHQ (98.2). Its cytotoxic activity against breast carcinoma cell line (MCF7) showed IC50 19.4 µg/ml compared with the standard used (Cisplatin), which its IC50 is 5.48µg/ml. Its anti-nociceptive properties showed that the 200 µL ethanolic extract concentration significantly (p<0.05) increased the response time in hot plate method and decreased the number of writhes in acetic acid writhing test when comparing with the control group.

Screening of antioxidant potential of Citrullus Colocynthis methanolic extract

Medicinal plants are the spine of long-established systems of medication all the way through the world. They are worthless, barely credible and conventional source for the remedial assortment of diseases in the appearance of medicines. The purpose of our current study was to estimate the antioxidant property of Citrullus colocynthis methanolic extract. Citrullus colocynthis belongs to family Cucurbitaceae, is a therapeutic plant conventionally used as an abortifacient and to indulgence constipation, oedema, bacterial infections, cancer and diabetes. The enthusiasm in the rear of this study was to emphasize the consequence of conventionally consumed plants as a persuasive resource of bioactive compounds. Phytochemical Screening of methanolic extract showed the occurrence of a variety of phytoconstituents that are accountable for pharmacological activities. The Antioxidant activity of methanolic extract was study spectrophotometrically by 1,1-diphenyl-2-picryl hydrazyl as well as free radical scavenging method. The results of present study revealed that the methanolic extract of Citrullus colocynthis possesses considerable antioxidant activity due to its free radical scavenging property.

Due to metabolic stress secondary to hyperglycemia and safety issues of primary pharmacologic agents used for the treatment of diabetes, safer plant-based natural products are being evaluated as alternative supplements in ensuring normal basal glucose level both in normal and diabetic patients. Recent studies have focused on developing such herbal drugs from plants like Syzygium cumini. This plant is readily used as an herbal drug in the Philippines due to its known medicinal properties; there are no sufficient studies currently available in the literature that validates the efficacy of the local duhat variety against hyperglycemia especially that of the leaf extract. In this study, crude methanolic extract of S. cumini leaves was evaluated for its anti-hyperglycemic property.
