1.tGallbladder Stone Removal Surgery 2.tWhat is Gallbladder? - The gallbladder is a pear shaped organ located in the upper right part of the abdomen, below the liver. Its main function is to store bile produced by the liver. The bile is released by the gallbladder in large amount after a large and fatty meal. 3.tWhat are 'Gallbladder Stones'? - Cholelithiasis or gall bladder stones, mean the formation of stones in the gall bladder. These stones are formed by the precipitation of cholesterol crystals due to an alteration in the ratio between bile salts, calcium salts, bile pigments and cholesterol. This is a frequent occurring condition. The function of gallbladder is already impaired when patients are having symptoms related to gall bladder stones. 9.tWhat are the risks involved in this surgery? - As with any surgery there are risks involved with surgery and an aesthesia. This is more so with elderly people and those having heart, lung , kidney or liver diseases. Thus emphasis should be placed on proper evaluation before surgery, and if you are having any such medical problems you should plan to be operated in a hospital with facilities for other specialties available. 10.tHow long have I to stay in hospital? - You can be discharged on the same day of surgery if you feel comfortable. We will prefer to keep you in hospital on the night of surgery and send you home the next day morning. Exceptions are when you have other problems like heart , lung or kidney diseases and require some treatment or monitoring for these conditions. Then you may need a couple of days in hospital. 11.tConsult us for Obesity Treatment t- For Appointment Call - 079-29703438 Or Visit:- www.drchiragthakkar.com

Open Cholecystectomy v/s Laparoscopic cholecystectomy - Gallbladder Stone Surgery

Open Cholecystectomy v/s Laparoscopic cholecystectomy - Gallbladder Stone Surgery

1.tOpen Cholecystectomy v/s Laparoscopic cholecystectomy - Gallbladder Stone Surgery 2.tIntroduction - Gallstones are a common occurrence in northern India. However, this trend is now showing pan India presence probably because of migration and blending of cultures and lifestyle. As many as 16% and 29% of women above the age of 40-49 years and 50-59 years, respectively, had gall stones. For every patient with symptomatic gallstone disease there are many more with asymptomatic gallstones. Laparoscopic cholecystectomy has now replaced open cholecystectomy as the first-choice of treatment for gallbladder stone and inflammation of the gallbladder. 3.tOpen Cholecystectomy - Cholecystectomy is one of the most commonly performed abdominal surgical procedures. The laparoscopic approach is preferred due to documented physiologic, economic, and cosmetic benefits compared with the open approach. However, when laparoscopic cholecystectomy is not possible or cannot be completed safely, open cholecystectomy is indicated. Open cholecystectomy may also be performed as an integral part of another operation (eg, pancreaticoduodenectomy) or incidentally, if indicated, during another gastrointestinal operation (eg, colon resection). 5.tRisks & Complications - The risk of complications is very low, however, potential risks might include: - Bleeding, Infection, Common bile duct injury, Minor shoulder pain (from the carbon dioxide gas), Bile leakage. 6.tBenefits: - Less discomfort than regular surgery, Shorter hospital stay, with a quicker recovery time compared to regular (open) surgery, Smaller scars than regular surgery. 7.tConsult us for Gallbladder Stone Treatment - For Appointment Call 079-29703438 Or Visit :- www.drchiragthakkar.com
