Where is Home for the Abuja, Nigeria Urban Poor

Where is Home for the Abuja, Nigeria Urban Poor

Abuja faced the challenges like all the new nation's capital relocation, resettlement and development. Development was taken to areas which hitherto were not only generally sparsely populated but also contributed quite little to the national economies. The design concept and physical development of the new capitals have been underpinned by the theory and principles of "garden city by Ebenezer Howard 1898 which influenced the building of Letchworth in 1902 and Welwyn in 1920 as new towns, dealing with urban poverty, inadequacy of housing and spatial integration. The present work aims to indicate, that Abuja, Nigeria, has not followed her Master Plan as a result, has not made provisions for adequate housing for the urban poor. The authors adopted content base analysis secondary data sources , where they carefully analyzed and interpreted works of other authors and used them in buttressing their points as applied to the issue at hand, "where is home for the Abuja urban poor Abuja, however, has not followed the urban development principles that guided both Letchworth and Welwyn. The Master Plan was abused, neglected and not followed. The Abuja urban design principles saw a lot of inconsistencies that result in Abuja urbanization, inadequacy of housing, urban poverty, etc. Informal land development provided shelter for Abuja urban poor. Discourse and Dissent in the Coverage of Hyderabad Blasts by the Leading Indian English Dailies

Discourse and Dissent in the Coverage of Hyderabad Blasts by the Leading Indian English Dailies

Print media is a mass media that serves as a vigilant watchdog in a society. It analyses the latest policies of the government and builds up public opinion, and works as a bridge between people and the government. Media has the power to generate a specific reaction from the public by the way a news story is portrayed. Newspapers have a significant impact on public perception of violent crime, far more than any other news source Paulsen, 2002 . During a conflict, the media plays a crucial role in shaping perception. The ways media constructs discourse vis a vis terrorist attacks needs to be recognized. "The credibility of media messages, their sources, and the messengers communicating those messages, as well as the context within which the messages are delivered, all mediate the influence of news on consumers Baum and Groeling, 2009 . Since the terrorist attacks, in addition to involving perpetrators and victims, also involves the audience. It can be said that the way news about the attacks is covered has an influence on how the masses perceive the incident. Such attacks have become a common occurrence, however, the focus of the current study is to analyze the discourse that has been generated by the media in the coverage of the Hyderabad blasts. The study also analyses the dissent in Indian print media by analyzing the reportage of the Hyderabad blasts by the four leading Indian English newspapers. A Comprehensive Comparative Study of MOM for Adaptive Interoperability Communications in Service Oriented Architecture

A Comprehensive Comparative Study of MOM for Adaptive Interoperability Communications in Service Oriented Architecture

Numerous software platforms have developed to support several application systems with a variety of techniques and solution. The communications between those platforms are required to ensure tasks distributed across different application systems. The collaboration between distinct application systems to grow, in tandem with the growth of SOA in which the resources of each SOA application might be developed and implemented using different standard and specification. Within this context, interoperability communications is significant to consolidate the optimization of these resources. Additionally, identifying the requirements attribute related to interoperability communications are the first step required in the development of interoperability communications. MOM can be considered as a tool for enabling the communications between distributed applications where the transaction or event notifications are delivered between distributed applications through the message. MOM provides a program to program connection by message passing. Most of the MOM environments are implemented using queued message store and forward capability, which is Message Queuing Middleware MQM . In addition, an adaptive interoperability communications can be defined as the computer system that enables self coordination to distribute computing resources and an adaptive to the new environment while hiding fundamental complexity from the operators and users. The intelligent system has the capability of self management to overcome the rapidly growing complexity in computing systems. The system makes decisions on its own by using the rules that have been identified. Intelligent system also provides an adaptive and dynamic environment for the process of communication. The framework of an intelligent system, fundamentally consists of intelligent elements. Each element performs a fixed function and interacting with other elements in a very dynamic environment. Third Gender Portrayal in Bollywood An Analysis of Sadak

Third Gender Portrayal in Bollywood An Analysis of Sadak

Cinema works as a mirror in which the human beings could see the reflection of their lives. It has a power to influence more than any other arm form. Therefore, it is very important to understand how a country, its people and its aspirations are represented in the cinema produced in the country. Mainstream Hindi cinema is the most widely distributed cinema in India. Identity construction is one of the significant issues in Bollywood. Filmmakers in India are trying to step outside the beaten track of traditional Indian themes but there has been no or little allowance for portrayal of transgender people, a subject that is still a taboo in a country where the discourse on sex itself is bound by moral restriction. Portrayal of their life stories and issues in Bollywood has veered between the sarcasm, denial, biased, comic, criminal and stereotyped. It would be interesting to study how Bollywood is portraying transgender people and what changes has their character undergone over the past decades. The research paper will analyse Sadak. The film is chosen because of being one of the first cult Bollywood film about a transgender character. Multi modal discourse analysis will be taken as a tool for analyzing the transgender character in the film. The present research attempts to show the identity construction of a third gender by analyzing select film in Bollywood. The researcher tries to establish the fact that a fair treatment is needed in order to deconstruct the myth of this marginalized section which deciphers their individual role and identity through the lens of sex only. Understanding Trend and Variation of Electrical Energy usage Among Students in the National University of Malaysia

The National University of Malaysia UKM is one of the prestige public university in Malaysia. Therefore, the University's management is always proactive in planning the best student facilities every year. The growth in electricity consumption and demand, however, has increased. Hence, this study aims to look at the comparison trend of electricity consumption of several colleges at Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia and the daily consumption rate of electricity used. Generally, this study is based on a quantitative scientific exploration study where energy consumption information is measured based on actual records between August and October 2017. In addition, observation on energy consumption of the student is also conducted. The findings show that the range of utility cost ratio with the total of students is between 49.5 kWh student and 80.8 kWh student and the average energy consumption is around 65.2 kWh student. The findings reveal that there is an imbalanced in the trend of energy consumption among the college dwellers. Responses from the Khazanah and college management revealed the necessity to study in depth in particularly the operation and management factors that may have an impact on these significant differences. Generally, the findings of random observations in UKMs campus residential colleges have found that a small percentage of students do not concerned on energy savings. Electricity awareness and savings campaigns should be one of the students activities in the colleges. In addition, the Universitys managers also need to think of a comprehensive action plan that is in line with the needs of sustainable or green campus in the future. Cassava, Plantain and Moringa Grown in an Alfisol and their Resilience to Bush Fire in Eastern Nigeria

Cassava, Plantain and Moringa Grown in an Alfisol and their Resilience to Bush Fire in Eastern Nigeria

Research on the resistance of cassava to fire is scarce because ordinarily researchers would not set their cassava farms on fire for such evaluation. Stems rendered useless by fire were commonly reported by farmers but no information on root yields and shoot regeneration. This study compared the superiority of two improved International Institute of Tropical Agriculture IITA cassava varieties "Yellow root and "Agric over plantain and moringa in a cassava plantain moringa intercropping arranged in a randomized complete block design at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, Research Farm. The original aim was to compare the performances of the crops in the mixture. It was set on fire by unknown persons in early February 2018. Crop growth data were collected after six months. Less than 5 and 4 of plantain and moringa stands regenerated respectively. The stands appeared impoverished. More than 90 of both cassava varieties regenerated stems suitable for use as cuttings. Average fresh root yield obtained was 18.5 t ha 1 with u00cb 95 marketable and only 5 rotten. The "Yellow root gave significantly higher starch content 30.9 vs 19.7 than "Agric. The root shoot ratio 3.35 vs 5.28 , fresh root weight 22.5 vs 14.5 t h1 and marketable root weight 21.61 vs 13.72 t ha1 for both varieties were statistically similar. This evaluation confirmed cassava as a better food security crop than plantain and more resilient to fire than both plantain and moringa. The two IITA improved varieties proved to be equally resilient to bush fire. Asadu, C. L. A | B. O. Unagwu | A. G. O. Dixon | R. Okechukwu | P. Ilona | A. N. Real Time Implementation and Investigation of Wireless Device of Electrical Stimulation for Peripheral Nevers

Real Time Implementation and Investigation of Wireless Device of Electrical Stimulation for Peripheral Nevers

Electrical nerve stimulation ENS is the delivery of electricity across the intact surface of the skin to activate underlying nerves generally with the objective of pain relief. Wearable Intensive Nerve Stimulation WINS is an emerging form of ENS in which the device is wearable, automated, and designed for intensive use. This enables regular use throughout the day and night, whenever the patient experiences pain, which is essential for the management of chronic pain. Hence we design and develop a wireless controlled smart tiny wearable medical device that is capable of passing electricity through underlying nerves of human beings for symptomatic relief and management of chronic pain. This project can be applicable for coma persons. When there is a slight improvement in their acceleration, this device will stimulate the peripheral nerves accordingly. Mrs. R. Ponni | S. A Modern Technique for Unauthorized Human Detection and Intimation

A Modern Technique for Unauthorized Human Detection and Intimation

Technological advancements are inevitable and the field of IoT is no exception. The utilization of the technologies in various sectors is highly employed. Even though we use technology in various sectors, the employment of technology for security purposes is very low. The Existing security in various places only CCTV is used for monitoring and recording. Even there are existing security systems where an alert is sent via an email which requires a stable internet connection. It is unlikely that we expect the user to be always connected to an internet source. In the Proposed system, authorized users faces will be trained and stored in a Database. Initially, when an unknown known person enters in the zone the camera module will capture the intruders face. The captured intruder's face will be compared with the trained faces in the database. If the person's face doesn't match, the micro controller will send an alert SMS to the recognized user and also the intruder's captured image will be E mailed to the user. The authorized user should acknowledge the SMS message. If he fails to acknowledge the message within a threshold time limit, an alert call will be made to the concerned user. By this the user gets intimated in real time. Keerthanna G. S | Praveen Kumar P | Vishnu Prasad K | Ms. S. Measurement of GHT Glucose, Heart Rate, Temperature Using Non Invasive Method

Measurement of GHT Glucose, Heart Rate, Temperature Using Non Invasive Method

The medical field has been emerged in the various sectors but the current blood glucose monitoring BGM are invasive as they require a finger prick blood sample, a repetitively painful process that creates the risk of infection. Hundreds of millions of dollars have been invested in companies who have sought the solution to this long standing problem. Approaches that have been tried include near infrared spectroscopy measuring glucose through the skin using light of slightly longer wavelengths than the visible region , measuring the amount that polarized light is rotated by glucose in the front chamber of the eye containing the aqueous humor ,and many others. This device provide a solution by interfacing a electronic device that has the capability of monitoring the glucose level, heart rate and temperature using non invasive method which has less risk factors. This is a continuous monitoring device. So it helps to prevent the organ losses due to the low and high level of glucose, heart rate, temperature. Kailash. S | Karthick Raja. A | Mahesh. Treating Migraine Ardhavbhedaka with Ayurveda A Single Case Study

Treating Migraine Ardhavbhedaka with Ayurveda A Single Case Study

Migraine is one of the most common neurovascular disabling disorders encountered in Shalakya practice. Migraine can be defined as a paroxysmal affection having a sudden onset accompanied by usually unilateral severe headache. In Ayurveda, Migraine is described as Ardhaavabhedhaka which is a major health issue among people of age group 20 to 50 years. According to WHO, migraine is the third most common disease in the world with an estimated global prevalence of 14.7 around 1 in 7 people .1 Chronic Migraine affects about 2 of world population2 with female and male ratio 3 1.3 The attack gives warning before it strikes black spots or a brilliant zigzag line appears before the eyes or the patient has blurring of vision or halos around the light, this type of headache is called headache with aura. It is also called as "sick headache because nausea and vomiting occasionally accompany the excruciating pain which lasts for 4 to 5 hours. Ayurveda believes in treating the disease at its root cause from within. The present article is a case report of 27 years old male who visited ENT OPD at SDM college of Ayurveda and Hospital, Hassan, Karnataka with a known case of migraine since 6 years. The patient was treated with Ayurvedic managements both sodhana and shamana chikitsa, under IPD and then OPD basis for 2 months. The patient experienced no attack of migraine even within 2 months of interval. This helps to achieve complete curative and prophylactic management of migraine through Ayurveda. This article may aid a new treatment option among practitioners of new era where there is no permanent cure for migraine.
