PET scan or positron emission topography employs radiation to find out what is going on within the body. The physicians prescribe PET scan for cardiology, neurology and cancer treatment. The radioactive tracers which are a special dye are used in performing PET scan. The patient is allowed to either inhale, swallow or inject into the vein for the scan. It mostly depends upon the type of body part is being examined. The tracer is absorbed by certain tissues and organs.
