Merit-Based Incentive Payment System (MIPS): QPP Year2
CMS has made avoiding penalties based on 2018 performance in the Merit-based Incentive Payment System (MIPS) relatively straightforward. Practices that achieve 15 or more points will avoid downstream penalties in 2020. For example, meeting the maximum requirements for improvement activities category of MIPS alone in 2018 will earn the practice the required 15 points. The quality category of MIPS will have the heaviest weighting. Most practices need to submit a minimum of six quality measures, although submitting more than six measures is recommended. At least one of the reported measures needs to be an outcome measure and if no outcome measures apply at least one high priority measure needs to be submitted.
