The antifungal activity of u03b1, u03b2-unsaturated carbonyl compounds has been recognized generally due to their ability to react with sulfhydryl containing system of fungi essential for normal metabolism.In view of this, number of enones and related compounds were synthesized and evaluated for the antifungal properties. In the present investigation, a series of some novel furfurylidene derivatives of 2,6- diphenyl piperidin-4-one have been synthesized.

Synthesis, antimicrobial and anthelmintic activity of some novel benzimidazole derivatives

New benzimidazole derivatives containing 4-chloropyridine-2-carbonyl and N-methyl picolinamide moieties in one side chain at 1H position of benzimidazoles (2- ((benzylthio)methyl)-1H-benzo[d]imidazol-1-yl)(4-chloropyridin-2-yl)methanones(3) have been synthesized as depicted in scheme-1. The intermediates and final compounds were purified and their chemical structures have been confirmed by IR, 1H NMR, and Mass spectral data. All the derivatives were examined for their anthelmintic activity against Indian adult earthworms (pheretima posthuma) at various concentrations (0.2% and 0.5%), antibacterial activity against B.subtilis, B.cereus, S.epidermidis, S.typhi, P.aeruginosa and K.pneumoniae and antifungal activity against A.flavus, F.oxysporium and P.notatum at a concentration of 2mg/ml. Most of the compounds tested have shown promising activities when compared with the standard drugs.

Antifungal activities of novel synthetic compounds against Phomopsis azadirachtae- the causative agent of die-back disea

Seven novel synthetic heterocyclic compounds containing naphthofurans were evaluated for their inhibitory effect on Phomopsis azadirachtae, the causative agent of destructive die-back disease of neem. Twigs of Azadirachta indica (Neem) infected with die-back were collected and were analyzed to determine the pathogen. Phomopsis azadirachtae the causal organism was isolated on malt extract agar from die-back infected neem twigs. They were identified by PCR based molecular methods. Phomopsis genus specific primers (5.8S r-DNA) were then used for the confirmation of P. azadirachtae – the causative agent of die-back of neem by Polymerase chain reaction (PCR). Studies revealed the amplification of expected 141bp DNA in P. azadirachtae isolated from the diseased trees confirming the causal organism of die-back of neem. Studies revealed a very effective in vitro control of P.azadirachtae mycelia growth at very significant concentration.

Preparation and Evaluation of Antimicrobial Herbal based Incense Sticks for Fumigation aga

A series of some new 2,2'(2,5-dimethoxy-3,6-dioxocycloxa-1,4-diene-1-4-diyl)bis(azanediyl) diacetic acid analogues were synthesized with the objective for evaluation as antimicrobials. Reaction of 2,5-dibromo-3,6-dimethoxy-1,4- benzoquinone with amino acids in the presence of triethylamine in ethanol gave the corresponding title compounds. The structures of all the newly synthesized compounds have been supported by elemental analysis, IR, 1H NMR and mass spectral data. All the synthesized compounds were tested for their antibacterial activity in comparison with the standard drug Streptomycin.

The urea-linkage at the anomeric center is a robust alternative to the naturally occurring O- and N-glycosidic linkages of oligosaccharides and glycoconjugates, and the natural products that have been identified to contain these structures show remarkable biological activity.With these approach a series of new glycosyl-3-o-tolyl carbamides were synthesized by the interaction of various glycosylamines with o-tolylisothiocyanate. The compounds obtained were identified and characterized by their physical, spectral and elemental analysis data. The synthesized compounds were screened for their in vitro antimicrobial activity against bacteria (S. aureus, E. coli, P. aeruginosa) and fungi (A. niger, T. viride). Some of these compounds exhibited moderate to good activity, whereas some were inactive
