  1. Protecting Elders From Financial Scams In this day and age, people are doing whatever they can to get money. If someone is very desperate, they might take up odd jobs or resort to crime and thievery. They often target the elderly because of their compassion and unfamiliarity with technology and money. These are often young people from other countries, or adults from the U.S. who need some extra money. But regardless of who they are, they are taking advantage of elders who do not know any better. Secure aging provides financial care services for seniors in Sarasota to help protect from such individuals. They have many methods of convincing the elders to give them money using lies and scaring them. Their goal is to convince the elders that giving them money will solve a problem that would have endangered them or someone they loved. And often, this works. One method these people use to steal money is a distraction. They depend on the idea that elders cannot hold much information at one time, and they will quickly offer them false information hoping that the elders will forget the legal information. They can also use sleight-of-hand techniques that elders are not prepared for. They are very practiced in these techniques and using sleight-of-hand to steal from strangers is one of the only robberies these people perform in person. Most of the trickery appears online or over the phone, where elders are less experienced.

  2. Another trick they use is scarcity. They will call enders over the phone, informing them of an amazing deal that will not last long and will never come back. The elders feel pressured to give in, as they do not have time to consider the consequences of their actions or even contemplate what the unknown person is asking for. They are only concerned for the deal they could lose if they spend too long thinking about it. The most common trick these people will use is emotional arousal. They take advantage of the elder’s love for their families and friends. They will tell them that something terrible has happened to their family and they need money right then to take care of them, or they will say that the IRS is collecting taxes right then and if they do not pay, they could go to jail. They will tell them these scary things in hope that the elders will feel like they must pay in order to protect themselves or someone they love and often it works.

  3. It is very important to always take your time when dealing with people asking for money. Always do your research and contact companies the worker says they associate with just to make sure. Especially if you feel rushed, be sure to think about what you are doing before you do it. Secure Aging is dedicated to keeping elders in Bradenton and their money safe, and we hope you will reach out to us to help you stay away from dangerous frauds.
