  4. Wisconsin 2011-2013 Budget Summary Bad for public schools: Average cut of $750 per child could mean 5,000 teachers lose their jobs – crowded classes and closed schools. Revenue limits take away all local control which results in fewer opportunities for students.

  10. Wisconsin 2011-2013 Budget Summary Public sector workers Higher costs for health insurance and pensions will cut most workers’ take home pay by an average of $2,700. This cut will mean their families spend less – hurting local stores. This will cost Wisconsin businesses $1 billion in economic activity and a loss of 9,000 retail and production jobs in community companies .

In-state students will have less access to UW-Madison

  12. These cuts are not necessary !! Let’s talk about a balanced approach that adds REVENUE to prevent drastic cuts Fiscal Fact: Wisconsin taxes are average in the United States and have stayed flat for years. Sales tax is the lowest in the region.

Fiscal fact: Many groups don’t pay their share of taxes • Multi-state and multi national corporations have paid almost • nothing for many years • The tax rate on the most wealthy is at an all time low while • taxes on lower income families are at an all time high. • Investors pay almost no taxes on their profits • Large “non-profit” hospitals like Aurora pay no income, • sales or property tax • Understaffed State Revenue Dept. lets tax evaders get away • Some developers use tricks to avoid real property tax costs

Don’t let the Legislature cut • $200 million more in • business and investor taxes • Boost sales tax by one penny to • raise $860 million a year • Collect tax on investment • profits to raise $140 million • A sales tax on business and • professional services raises • $322 million • A surtax on incomes over • $250,000 raises $168 million There are options for raising revenue to protect communities 67% of Wisconsin citizens believe revenue should be part of the solution

  15. It is time to stand up and fight for our families and communities • Tell your State Legislators that you • oppose this destructive budget. • 2. Talk to your friends, family and co-workers. • Mobilize them to fight this plan. • 3. Join public actions to stop this budget • plan from passing.
