Evolution of Mohawk Technology & Awards 1825 - Erastus Bigelow Invented Woven Carpet 1878 - The Shuttleworth brothers brought 14 looms from England to New York and established the first manufacturing plant. 1920 - Mohawk Carpet Mills, Inc. formed by merging the existing Shuttleworth business with a New York carpet manufacturer. 1951 - Mohawk invented woven interlock technology. 1956 - Merger with Alexander Smith Carpet. 1992 - Mohawk Industries, Inc. completed public offering. 1993 - Mohawk acquired American Rug Craftsman. -Mohawk acquired Karastan Bigelow Carpets. -Mohawk acquired Aladdin Carpeting. 1995 -Mohawk acquired Galaxy Carpet Mills. *Design Award-Gold Best of Neocon (3styles). *Design Award-ASID Gold Award
