Skills Delivery Branch Overview • 3 Project teams working in various regions across NI. • advisers engage with employers to identify suitable training opportunities for staff. • discuss financial support towards training costs. • where necessary, fund development activity with local training providers to ensure training delivered locally. • customise training and ensure it is accredited. • signpost to other training and recruitment solutions.

Recruitment • Bridge to Employment (BTE) - is a pre-employment training programme that helps unemployed people get jobs – whatever their experience. • Steps to Work (STW) - is a programme to help people move into and sustain employment. This includes work experience, training, and qualifications.

Recruitment – Bridge to Employment • Bridge to Employment is a pre-employment training programme that helps companies recruit unemployed people whatever their experience of work. • Bridge to Employment programmes are run in response to employers with job vacancies. Training courses are tailored to meet the skill requirements of the job. • NO COST TO THE EMPLOYER. • In the last financial year 400+ people got jobs through our Bridge to Employment programme.

Recruitment - Steps to Work • The aim of Steps to Work is to assist people who are unemployed or economically inactive to find and sustain employment. • The Employer Subsidy is a 26 week package of assistance available to those employers who recruit eligible clients. • £60 p/w Full Time; £40 p/w Part Time for 18 to 24 year olds; • £75 p/w Full Time; £50 p/w Part Time for 25+; • Up to £750 available towards formal training or up to £300 available for short accredited training specific to the job role (18 to 24 years olds only); • http://www.delni.gov.uk/index/finding-employment-finding-staff/fe-fs-help-to-find-employment/stepstowork/what-steps-to-work-offers-employers.htm

Upskilling & Reskilling • Customised Training – is a training programme for current staff which leads to a recognised qualification. • Available for Small to Medium Enterprise (SME) or Social Enterprise with up to 250 (or Full Time Equivalent) employees provided they don’t receive public funding for training. • Up to 100% funding on a sliding scale dependent on current skill level and number of employees. • Training can only be funded if it leads to a recognised qualification on the Qualification Credit Framework (QCF).

  12. Upskilling & Reskilling Customised Training funding is based on the size of the company, qualifications already attained and level of qualifications being sought.

Upskilling & Reskilling Customised Training – how it works • we will meet with an employer to learn more about the business and to discuss the specific training needs. • a training project will then be built around the employer’s specific requirements.   • training can be delivered at a time and location to suit the employer. • employers will be required to release staff to undertake any training and may also be required to make a financial contribution.

Upskilling & Reskilling Examples of Customised Training in the Healthcare Sector • Level 2 (NVQ) Diploma in Health and Social Care. • Level 3 (NVQ) Diploma in Health and Social Care. • Level 2 (NVQ) Diploma in Professional Cookery. Management Training & Development • Made Not Born – Range of Events with key speakers to help “bring to life” the key management and leadership skills which are needed to grow your business, enhance your team potential. • These events are aimed at Small to Medium Enterprises (10 – 250 employees). • Working with a number of delivery partners there are a range of direct support programmes designed to meet the needs of different organisations. • They include structured programmes for individual managers across a range of themes as well as tailored company focused programmes. • http://www.delni.gov.uk/index/successthroughskills/madenotborn.htm

Management Training & Development Direct Support Programmes • Management Analysis and Planning (MAP) - analysis of your business resulting in a training and development plan. • The Department for Employment and Learning will meet the cost of the business analysis, (itself worth £1000) and will provide up to a further £6000 of funding (on a 40% basis), towards development activities arising from the completed training and development plan. • Aimed at Small to Medium Enterprises. • http://www.delni.gov.uk/index/successthroughskills/madenotborn/direct-support-programmes/madenotborn-map.htm

Management Training & Development Direct Support Programmes • Management and Leadership Development Programme (MLDP) - the programme is open to managers at varying levels of development from first line management through to training for directors and senior managers and addresses a range of business areas. • Financial assistance is available to NI-based Small to Medium-sized Enterprises and Social Economy Enterprises at 50% of programme cost. • The maximum MLDP funding a company may receive from DEL will be £7000 per annum. • http://www.delni.gov.uk/index/successthroughskills/madenotborn/direct-support-programmes/madenotborn-mldp.htm
