  2. Igneous Rocks • Rock formed from melted rock that comes from deep within the earth.

  3. Sedimentary Rocks • Rocks formed when sediments are pressed or cemented together.

  4. Metamorphic Rock • Rock formed when igneous or sedimentary rock is changed by heat.

  5. Hardness Scale This scale measures the hardness of minerals. A harder mineral will scratch a softer mineral.

  6. Mohs Hardness Scale • Talc 1 softer • Gypsum 2 • Calcite 3 • Fluorite 4 • Apatite 5 • Orthoclase 6 • Quartz 7 • Topaz 8 • Corundum 9 harder • Diamond 10
