  4. Childhood • Born March 25, 1964 in Philadelphia, PA • Moved to Clermont, FL at age five • Had many health sicknesses

  5. College Years • Attended University of Florida • Majored in English • Didn’t start writing until age 29 • Worked at a book warehouse for 4 and a half years

  6. Today • Writes for young children and adults • Considers herself as a story teller • Is short, but loud • Takes her about a year to write a book • Lives in Minneapolis now

  7. Awards Because of Winn-Dixie won the Newberry Award The Tale of Desperaux won Prestigious Award Tiger rising was a national book award finalist

  9. Because of Winn-Dixie Because of Winn-Dixie is about Indian Opal. She had just moved to Florida and meets a dog. She keeps the dog and goes through the summer with many memorable events.

  10. The Tale of Desperaux The Tale of Desperaux is about a mouse born into the castle. A few years later he meets the princess. It was love at first sight. When the mice capture her is it Desperaux’s duty to get her back.

  11. The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane A porcelain rabbit, Edward Tulane, gets lost by his owner and goes through many adventures to get back to his loving owner.

  12. The Magician’s Elephant Peter Augustus’s sister goes missing. He went to a fortune teller to see if she was alive. She says yes but can’t see her. He must follow the magician’s elephant to find her.

  13. The Tiger Rising Rob Horton lives with his dad in a motel. One day he finds a caged tiger. Rob finds this as an opportunity of magic. And indeed the tiger does bring about some magic.
