A catalytic converter is the part on a car that deals with the emissions and it's main aim is to reduce pollution. There are a few tell tale signs when a catalytic converter is started to fail. 1. A reduction in power, this could be because the catalytic converter is blocked.
2. Engine light comes on and when scanned tells your the catalytic converter is the cause. 3. A smell of rotten eggs is always a big sign there is an issue with the catalytic converter, not a pleasant smell at all! 4. If you can here a rattle in the exhaust the chance is it is either the heat shield or the catalytic converter
5. Tap test, you can tap the catalytic converter and then tap the still exhaust pipe next to it, if they sound the same your catalytic converter is empty and will need replacing.
