What is the Standing Committee of European Doctors (CPME)? International, not for profit association of the national medical chambers/associations from 32 European countries. It also cooperates closely with associated specialized European medical organizations. CPME aims to promote the highest standards of medical practice in order to achieve the highest quality of health care for all citizens of Europe. Is concerned with the promotion of public health, the relationship between patients and doctors and the free movement of doctors within the EU
Representation of the medical profession in Europe CPME defends physicians all over Europe: • Salaries • Working conditions • Career opportunities • Professional autonomy and self-regulation • Mobility • Direct support for national CPME members (like the Colegiul Medicilor din România) – CZ, E, GB, H, PL, P, R, SLK, SLO …)

Physicians mobility Revision and novelization of the Professional Qualifications Directive (2005/36): • Guarantie for the mobility of doctors • Safeguarding patients’ safety • Ethical recruitment
National problems (Romania?) • Low financing • Chaotic organization • Marketization and commercialization of health care system • Burocracy • Payers’, administration’s and management’s influence on medical practice (autonomy!) • Bioethical pressure (traditional values!)
