  3. Spanish History Spanish developed in the Iberian peninsula which is now present day Spain and is the official language of 21 countries. It is the 2nd most studied language in the world and has been spreading for the past 1,000 years. Click to play audio.

  5. The Spanish Empire The Spanish Empire was the driving force behind the spread of the Spanish language. It grew strong through the new world, being the first country to be able to lay a claim to it. They conquered the local Indians and took their vast amounts of precious metals back to the empire and gave them their share of 1/5 of all treasures recovered. The funds were then divided up among the army, and their leader was often given governance of the lands he conquered. They later survived on several mining operations. They were the first empire since Rome, and the largest European empire.

  6. Spanish Speaking Races There is no specific race of people that speak Spanish, everyone can either be born into a Spanish family or learn the language later in life.

  7. Spanish Dialect and Variation Within a language or a language group there maybe a major difference in speech. Dialects vary on the geographical area and the cultural information in context. What follows the dialects in Spanish is a basic expiation of the major ten Spanish dialects, where they are spoken and how they differ. The term dialect refers to those differences in intonation and pronunciation and even words and expressions that exist in some branches of a language while absent in others. Click to play audio.
