THE NEW WELDING SHOP AT UTC OPENED FOR THE 2011-2012 SCHOOL YEAR THAT WILL SERVE 50 STUDENTS PER YEAR.
TCTW GOAL 1 UNITED TECHNICAL CENTER TCTW PROGRESS REPORT – OCTOBER 2011 MAJOR ACTION #1: UTILIZE LITERACY ACTIVITIES WITHIN EACH TECHNICAL PROGRAM STEPS COMPLETED: • ALL STUDENTS WERE TESTED WITH THE TABE IN SEPTEMBER BY MR. SCOTT. TUTORING OCCURRED WEEKLY THROUGHOUT THE SCHOOL YEAR. • A BELL RINGER MANUAL WAS COMPLETED AND DISTRIBUTED TO ALL FACULTY AS A RESOURCE. • STUDENTS ARE SPENDING TIME IN THE SUCCESS LAB COVERING CAREER WEB SEARCHES, RESUMES, COVER LETTERS, ETC. THE CFWV SITE IS NOW BEING USED. THE WVINFODEPOT WILL ALSO BE USED AS A NEW TOOL THIS YEAR. • STUDENT PROJECTS HAVE BEEN DESIGNED TO INCORPORATE LITERACY ACTIVITIES. • FACULTY HAVE ATTENDED PLC ACTIVITIES, CE SESSIONS, AND MEETINGS TO GAIN INFORMATION NECESSARY TO WORK WITH STUDENTS TO IMPROVE THEIR SCORES ON LITERACY BASED TESTING.

TCTW GOAL 4 MAJOR ACTION #4: IMPROVED MIDDLE SCHOOL AND COUNSELOR COMMUNICATION STEPS COMPLETED: • COLLEGE/CAREER NIGHT WAS HELD AT UTC ON SEPTEMBER 21, 2010 AND OCTOBER 10, 2011. A SPRING OPEN HOUSE WAS ALSO HELD ON APRIL 20, 2011. OPEN HOUSE WILL BE HELD AGAIN IN THE SPRING OF 2012. • UTC TOURS HAVE BEEN OCCURRING SINCE EARLY DECEMBER FOR THE CURRENT SCHOOL YEAR. • A NOTEBOOK IS BEING PREPARED FOR EACH HIGH SCHOOL CONCERNING THE PROGRAMS AT UTC. • A BREAKFAST WAS HELD AT PANERA’S WITH THE HELP OF THE TECH PREP CONSORTIUM FOR ALL COUNSELORS ON 9/22/10 AND 4/13/11. • A COUNSELOR LUNCHEON IS BEING PLANNED FOR DECEMBER 2, 2011 AT UTC. • THE TCTW SURVEY WAS COMPLETED ONLINE.
HARRISON COUNTY COLLEGE/CAREER NIGHT Harrison County College/Career Night At United Technical Center October 10, 2011 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. • Students – 8th -12th Grade and Parents are encouraged to attend from Harrison, Doddridge, and Taylor Counties • Harrison County Senior Students will be able to register for a scholarship from the Harrison County Counselors Association. • Hosted by Harrison County School Counselors, UTC, and NCTPC
TCTW GOAL 5 MAJOR ACTION #5: CREDIT RECOVERY AND GED OPTIONS PROGRAM STEPS COMPLETED: • WE HAVE BEEN ASSISTING STUDENTS TO ENROLL IN THE GED OPTIONS PROGRAM INSTEAD OF DROPPING OUT OF SCHOOL SINCE SEPTEMBER OF 2010. • WE HAVE IMPLEMENTED A CREDIT RECOVERY PROGRAM AT UTC BEGINNING ON 2/14/11. • A TRAINING SESSION WAS HELD FOR THE GED OPTIONS PROGRAM AND TWO UTC STAFF MEMBERS ATTENDED ON 9/23/11. • A UTC COMPLETERS CEREMONY WAS HELD ON FOR MAY 13, 2011 TO HONOR OUR COMPLETERS/GRADUATES.
UTC NEW INITIATIVES FOR 2010-2011 & 2011-2012 CREDIT RECOVERY • 1. STARTED 2/14/11 FOR ENGLISH CREDIT RECOVERY • 2. CONTINUING THIS YEAR WITH SEVERAL STUDENTS WHO NEED MATH CREDIT • 3. SET UP A MEETING WITH STATE DEPARTMENT PERSONNEL AND REVIEWED THE SET UP FOR CREDIT RECOVERY AND VIRTUAL SCHOOL OPTIONS – FALL 2011 GED OPTIONS PROGRAM • 1. ATTENDED A MEETING AND STARTED WORKING WITH STUDENTS TO ENROLL THEM IN THE GED OPTIONS PROGRAM – SEPTEMBER 2010 – TOTAL FOR YEAR - 21 • 2. CONTINUING TO WORK WITH GED OPTIONS STUDENTS – 20 ENROLLED AT THIS TIME IN CONJUNCTION WITH UTC
NEW INITIATIVE FOR 2011-2012 UNITED TECHNICAL CENTER IS NOW WORKING WITH THE WEST VIRGINIA VIRTUAL SCHOOL PROGRAM TO ASSIST STUDENTS IN COMPLETING COURSES FOR GRADUATION; COURSES THAT COULD NOT BE COMPLETED BECAUSE OF ATTENDANCE AT UTC; AND/OR COURSES FOR PERSONAL INTEREST, SKILL IMPROVEMENT FOR TESTING, AND A MEANS FOR STUDENTS TO ATTEND UTC FULL-TIME DURING THE SENIOR YEAR.

2011-2012 TCTW GOALS • GOAL 1: INCREASE BY 2% THE WORKKEYS SCORES IN READING AND MATHEMATICS. • GOAL 2: IMPROVE BY 2% THE YEARLY ATTENDANCE RATE OF UTC STUDENTS. • GOAL 3: INCREASE AND IMPROVE THE LEVEL OF COMMUNICATION BETWEEN UTC AND THE FEEDER HIGH SCHOOLS TO BETTER ADDRESS THE NEEDS OF THE STUDENTS. • GOAL 4: INVESTIGATE ADDITIONAL RELEVANT TECHNICAL PROGRAMS THAT ADDRESS THE NEEDS OF BUSINESS AND INDUSTRY IN THE LOCAL AREA AND ACROSS THE STATE. • GOAL 5: INCREASE AND IMPROVE RELATIONSHIPS WITH COMMUNITY AND TECHNICAL COLLEGES.

UTC CHALLENGES 1. THE STATE STANDARDS FOR WORKKEYS AND GLOBAL 21 ASSESSMENTS HAVE BEEN RAISED AND WILL BE HARDER TO MEET ANNUALLY. 2. 2012 SKILLED PATHWAY STUDENTS MUST BE COMPLETERS IN ORDER TO GRADUATE. 3. 60 STUDENTS MUST TAKE THE NAEP DURING THE CURRENT SCHOOL YEAR. 4. THE TEACHER SURVEY WILL NEED TO BE COMPLETED AGAIN THIS YEAR.
