NorTex- Background and Direction • A long track record of Norway – US partnerships in research and Higher Education • Role of NSF, NIH, NOAA, DOE, US State Department / Fulbright, other Federal Agencies, instruments. • University collaboration – over 100 MoUs, cases including Harvard, MIT, U of Minnesota, Colorado, U of North Dakota, Stanford, Berkeley, etc • NorTex builds upon the past, while taking a focused geographic, thematic and strategic focus
Why Texas and Norway? • Both important players in global energy markets • Strong presence of Norwegian industry in Texas • 150 Norway related companies. Long history of university collaboration in the petroleum sector. • 10 000 Norwegian expats in Houston region. • 12 years of cooperation in the medical field: • MD Anderson Cancer Center, now also Memorial Hermann, Texas Heart Institute, Baylor College of Medicine • Complementary expertise in such areas as energy, space and nanotechnology
