Article: Sensomaticloadcell.net A Guide to Capacity Selection of Load Cells Mechanical Overload remains at the top of the reasons for load cell failure even today. It happens so often that it spurs people to jump to the inaccurate conclusion that the product was faulty. If your load cell ever failed, do stop to investigate into the capacity of the equipment before rushing to make the phone call to your provider. So, to prevent such a mishap from happening when it’s avoidable, here is a little help to make the accurate capacity selection for load cells. Although selecting the right capacity looks like a straightforward process, it is not really an easy one. Somebody with an inadequate understanding of the mechanism involved has to really be lucky to be able to pick the right capacity for their intended operations at the very first attempt. To make the drill simpler, you can of course turn to the load cell suppliers in Indore to help you select the right capacity. Otherwise, stay with me as I take you through the parameters that can help you avoid any consequential errors in the process of picking the capacity. Load Cell Measurement Range: There is a permissible error range which limits the impact on the performance of a load cell. So, your target should be to stay within that range. The range of mass values shouldn’t at any time exceed the measurement results. As long as you are within this range, you are safe to make a selection. Beyond that, you run every risk of equipment failure that can happen any day. It is preferable to limit the load to 80% of capacity @ static Load & 50-60% at dynamic Load. Safe Load Limit: Whether it’s a beam load cell or a compression load cell, every transducer has a safe load limit. When that is transgressed, it permanently changes the performance characteristics of the system. That you cannot afford to do if you want to use the equipment for a long time. So, the idea is to limit the load within the max limit which is specified in the equipment. Look for the measuring range percentage. It is often as high as 150%, but it rarely exceeds that mark. That’s your safety range of loading. Maximum Overload: The maximum load is considered the breaking load, at this point the Load Cell gets deformed & is damaged beyond the serviceable range. For some transducers, it goes as high as 300% which is quite a lot, in terms of overloading capacity. So, if your intended use exceeds the premeditated mark, you still have a grace range to push without affecting the structural integrity of the device. Safe Side Load: The safe side load is acceptable range of weight you can apply on the device at 90 degree to its axis, when loaded fully in the Actual axis of loading. Look for measuring range percentage in your manual to find out the percentage of safe side load.
