Symbolism Partner Paper • Things I will be grading: • Clear analysis of the symbol’s meaning • Connection to a larger purpose/thematic understanding of the novel • What purpose does the symbol serve in the larger thematic context of the novel? • Close readings of quotes: I want to see lots of deconstruction at the word level • We have practiced this a lot: look at diction/word choice • This means lots of key words in your analysis and lots of analysis about the choice of those particular words • Logical Structure/Organization • Your ideas should create a cogent argument that utilizes the strongest tools of argument • Length: 1- 2 pages (I will NOT read a 3rd page!)
