UNI and Corporate Social Responsibility • There is no generally accepted definition of the term CSR. • It describes a widerange of economic, social and environmental initiatives by enterprises that go beyond legalrequirements • Mostly voluntary in nature

UNI and Corporate Social Responsibility • Ethical Corporation Survey • 91% of respondents believed effective CSR management creates shareholder value. • 80% agreed non-financial indicators such as environmental and socialperformance indicators are essential to future financial performance • 67% disagreed with the assertion that the “primary responsibility ofcorporations is to make money, and that all else is secondary.” • Over 60% of all respondents believe Codes of Conduct, Environmental ManagementSystems and Management Compensation Linked to CSR Performance to be the top threestrategies important to effective CSR management. • Over 60% of the respondents viewed Reputation Risk, Employee Motivation andSatisfaction, and Brand Image as factors most important to building a business case andimplementation of CSR policies. • Over half of all respondents held that much of corporate environmentalism is merely“Greenwash.” • When asked about what tools or tactics their companies were likely to adopt in order tomanage CSR within the next 5 years, the most prevalent answer was “I don’t know”.
