  2. What is ISO 14000? • ISO 14000 is a series of environmental Management standards • The standards were designed to help companies - Develop effective environmental management systems

  3. - Improve environmental performance - Demonstrate sound environmental management practices

  4. - Standards were created by the International Organization for Standardization - The U.S. Technical Advisory Group (TAG) developed the U.S. Position on the ISO 14000 documents

  5. ISO 14001- A specification standard that cites requirements for implementing and maintaining EMS. Organizations become registered to this standard. • ISO 14004- Guidance document

  6. Links between ISO 9000 and ISO 14000 • Both are voluntary standards. • Both are management standards- do not establish required performance levels. • Both are designed for internal use- registration requires a third-party audit. • Both are generic in nature so that they can be applied across the board to organizations of all types and sizes.

  7. Benefits of ISO 14000 • Helps organizations meet and maintain regulatory and legislative requirements • Minimizes the environmental impact of products, activities, and resources. • Promotes environmental awareness
