  1. A DOES THE SIZE OF AN ICE CUBE Affect ITSMELTING SPEED?

  2. QUESTION • DOES THE SIZE OF AN ICE CUBE AFFECT HOW QUICKLY IT MELTS?

  3. PURPOSE • THE PUPOSE OF MY INVESTIGATION IS TO DETERMINE IF THE SIZE OF THE ICE CUBE AFFECTS HOW QUICKLY IT MELTS. I CHOSE THIS INVESTIGATION BECAUSE I WONERED IF A LARGE ICE CUBE MELTED AT THE SAME RATE AS A SMALL ICE CUBE.

  4. HYPOTHESIZE I HYPOTHESIZE THAT THE SIZE OF AN ICE CUBE AFFECTS THE SPEED OF ITS MELTING. I BELIEVE THIS BECAUSE I THINK THE MORE WATER IT HAS THE BIGGER ICE CUBE WILL MELT SLOWER.

  5. PROCEDURE

  6. MATERALS • TIMER • 2 PLASTIC CUPS (SAME SIZE) • MEASURING CUPS • 2 ICE CUBES

  7. VARIABLE • MANIPULATED - SIZE OF ICE CUBE • RESPONDING - MELTING TIME • CONSTANT-SAME SIZE CUPS, SAME TYPE OF WATER, FROZEN SAME AMOUNT OF TIME, USED SAME MEASURING CUP

  8. DIRECTIONS 1. GATHER MATERIALS 2. FILL 2 PLASTIC CUPS WITH WATER. FILL ONE CUP WITH WATER. FILL 2ND CUP WITH WATER. 3. PLACE ALL CUPS OF WATER IN FREEZER UNTILL ALL WATER HAS TURNED TO ICE. 4. REMOVE 1 CUP FROM THE FREEZER. PUSH START ON TIMER. 5. RECORD THE AMOUNT OF TIME IT TAKES TO COMPLETELY MELT. 7. REPEAT STEPS 4 AND 5 FOUR MORE TRIALS 8. CALCULATE THE AVERAGE MELTING TIME FOR THE CUBES OF ICE.

  11. CONCLUSION • MY HYPOTHESIS WAS CORRECT. DIFFERENT SIZES OF ICE CUBES DO MELT AT DIFFERENT RATES. IF I HAD TO DO THIS PROJECT AGAIN I WOULD NOT CHANGE ANYTHING. SHAPE A TOOK 90 MINUTES TO COMPLETELY MELT. SHAPE B TOOK 200 MINUTES WHICH PROVED MY HYPOTHESIS CORRECT.
