Transition Theory Transition theory is based on the individual and what they consider to be a transition in their life. This theory is used as a guideline from what steps should be taken during the transition to help the student to transition into what they need.

Student Involvement Theory The amount of student learning and personal development is directly proportional to the quality and quantity of student involvement. Student Involvement: the amount of physical and psychological energy that the student devotes to the academic experience. • The more time and energy a student devotes to an activity the more he/she will get out of it. Student Involvement = Student Success

Challenge and Support This student development theory is based on a balance of challenge and support. Too much support with too little challenge creates a comfortable environment for the student, where little development is possible. However, too little support with too much challenge makes development an impossible and negative experience. Support Challenge
Challenge and Support One of your students is nervous to start college and feels that she is not prepared for the workload. She is afraid that she will not make it through her first year of college. A student in your group is very shy and is not actively participating in the activities or interacting with the other students. An undeclared student is struggling registering for classes because he is unsure what career he wants to pursue. One of your students tells you that she is nervous about meeting new people on campus because she doesn’t know anyone at MSU and she is a commuter.
