  2. WOW.. A couple of things you didn’t know about Tobacco! 88,695 kids have become regular smokers in 2006. Nearly 23 percent of high-school students and more than 10 percent of the middle-school students in the United States smoke cigarettes.

  3. The NIDA says… • In 2004, 30% of the U.S. population over age 12 used tobacco at least once in the month prior to being interviewed • Tobacco use remains the leading preventable cause of death in the United States.

  4. Attention! Attention! • Smoking is extremely addicting. Once you start, you may not be able to stop — ever. • It is easier to quit heroin than it is to quit smoking!

  5. Just the Facts… • Teenagers smoke for a variety of reasons.  Some of the reasons are: (1) peer pressure; (2) low self esteem; (3) wanting to be "cool"; (4) a desire to keep weight down; or (5) a parent or close relative smokes. • Teenagers get hooked easily, and it's hard for them to break the habit because they are under a lot of peer pressure to keep smoking.
