Issuer and Security Selection Start with the definition of credit: what is credit? • Credit is the risk associated with an issuer’s ability to repay obligations as they come due. • Credit is not asset coverage, credit is not relative value, but both play an important role in the analysis of credit. Risk profile of credit differs markedly from other fixed income asset classes • Linkages between credit risk and broad macroeconomic trends are indirect and complex • Granularity of different types of credit risk is high and the relationships between those risks are complex and unpredictable • Risk at the level of individual credits is virtually unhedgable
