This report presents the results of the assessment on the turnaround time for Chlamydia tests conducted in March 2007. The study focuses on the time taken from specimen collection to lab receipt, time spent in the lab, and the overall time from collection to result. The preliminary results indicate an average time of 2.5 days to the lab, 3.3 days in the lab, and a total average time of 5.8 days from collection to result. The findings are based on data collected from laboratories providing diagnostic support to the Infertility Prevention Programs in Region II.

Region II IPP Objective • IPP Priority 3: Improve Appropriate and Timely Treatment for Persons Diagnosed with Chlamydial Infection and Their Partners. • Regional Plan Objective 3A: At least every two years, assess turnaround time within lab to assure compliance with 3 business days (develop tracking system clinic to clinic).
Approach • Study Participants Defined as: • Laboratories providing diagnostic support to project area Infertility Prevention Programs. • How is TAT Defined: • Part I. Time to Lab • Number of days that have elapsed between specimen collection date and date specimen received in the lab. • Part II. Time in Lab • Number of days that have elapsed between the date the specimen is received in the lab and the date that the lab sends the final report out.
Methodology • Electronic Data Submission • Required data elements: • For Record Identification: State FIP, Lab ID • For Assessment of TAT: Specimen collection date, Specimen Receipt Date (in Lab), Final result report date • Completion of TAT Assessment Table • Data was collected beginning with specimens received by the lab starting March 1, 2007 through March 31, 2007 • Data was forward to Region II IPP Infrastructure and collated.
Preliminary Results:TAT Summary • TAT 1: Time to Lab • Avg: 2.5 days (Range: 1 to 2.8) • TAT 2: Time in Lab • Avg: 3.3 days (Range: 0 to 5.1 days) • TAT Total: Time from Collection to Result • Avg: 5.8 days (Range 2.8 to 7.5 days) • Avg: 2.8 days including NYC (Avg. 1.6 days)
