Answer the question! • Write quietly without stopping • Don’t worry about grammar or spelling • Just get your ideas out!!

  3. What is this class about? • For now, set up dividers in your 3-ring binder for • Daily Notes • Process Journal • More categories will come.

  4. What is this class about? • Originally called “Tech/Technology” • Now known as “Design” • We will still engage constantly with technology, and you will learn new technological tools • Major focus is providing support for your personal project • GOAL: Develop skills and tools you can use to be more successful technologically in a process-oriented way

  5. What we will do to reach the goal? • Unit 1: It’s called RE-search for a reason • Where to start • Evaluating sources • Citing sources • To turn in at end of unit: Design brief • We will talk about all that this week!

What we will do to reach the goal? • Forthcoming units of study: • Telling a story with images (digital photography, Photoshop) • Making a difference with video (digital video recording, video editing with Premiere) • Thinking like a computer (introduction to procedural computer programming) • You have something important to say (public presentations and PowerPoint) • Data, data, data! (data analysis and graphing with Excel) • Put it all together: design problem

  7. Learning Community Expectations • Take pride in your school • Respect other community members • Try – put forth your best effort, always • Take responsibility and contribute to your own and others’ learning

Specific Procedures • We expect each other to arrive on time. • If you are late, sign in on the tardy log and get seated and caught up as quickly as possible. • We expect each other to be in-class working together. • Hall passes generally not issued. Plan accordingly. • If you need help or clarification, ask each other first to see if you can resolve it as a community. • Homework will be posted on our class Web-site. • Online homework will be turned into Google drive. • I will communicate with you using your CPS email.

This week: let’s get organized • DUE: • Wednesday, September 3 • Get your 3-ring binder, loose leaf paper, and dividers! • Thursday, September 4 • Background survey about yourself (see Web site) • Download and print Personal Project Handbook (see Web site) • Written response to a discussion we will have on Wednesday • Friday, September 5 • Signed copy of syllabus from parent • Monday, September 8 • Entry #1 logged into Personal Project Process Journal

  10. How do I know what’s due when? • Check the class web site! • http://sennhs.org • Faculty > Mr. Cihlar > MYP Design • Homework • In general, you can also expect a quiz most Fridays.

  11. Let’s save your bell-ringer • In your Google Drive, create a folder • MYP Design_Period#_LastName_FirstName • No spaces – just underscores • Share with jecihlar@cps.edu • Create a folder called Bellringers • Save as “Bellringer_2014_09_02”
