Formation and priority • The formation of the Academy of Arts in Banská Bystrica was conditioned by the need of the whole society to complete the academic education in arts but mainly by the diversification and decentralization of the possibilities of art study in Slovakia. In the previous social system the plurality in art education was preserved by the academies of arts in Prague, Brno and Bratislava • The priority in the area of education being offered at the faculties of the Academy of Arts in Banská Bystrica between the years 2002 and 2005 was the transformation of the content and the forms of study subjects which were taught according to the previous rules for the accredited study programs for higher education, introducing the credit system, support of the academic mobility, and monitoring of the quality of education with respect to the Bologna Declaration • Academy has three faculties – Faculty of dramatic arts, Faculty of music arts, Faculty of fine arts
Erasmus student mobility • Over 6 300 Slovak students since 1998 (0,38 % of the total) • Numbers are increasing steadily each year • Erasmus as a possibility starts at Academia of Arts in Banska Bystrica since academic year 2004/2005. Student mobility and short – term attachment has a great popularity and our students are using this opportunity each year. • For Academic year 2008/2009 • outgoing students for student mobility – 29 • Outgoing students using short – term attachment – 10 • Incoming students – around 7 each school year • Academy of Arts has bilateral agreement with 33 Universities (Poland, Lithuania, Italia, Finnland, France, Hungary, Czech republic, Rumania, Spain, Austria, Portugal, Island, Slovinia, ...)
Outgoing and incoming students • The reason why our students want to study at foreign Universities is simple – they want to challenge and to gain opportunity study same field at different place. Yes, there are another reasons as meet new people, see new country, have new experiences, etc. • Most of the outgoing students travel for student mobility to Czech republic, Finnland, Poland, Italia, etc. • Most of the incoming studets are from Lithuania, Czech republic, Finnland, Italia, Poland, etc. • Our students after arrive from foreign University are doing visual presentation, which motivate schoolmates to look for same experiences. Especially we usually send out pair of students, because they can help each other and be support for each other • Outgoing students can stay by student mobility from 2 – 12 months by ECTS credit system • Incoming students have their own choice to select study subjects • We offer student house as a accomodation, library and coordinator who speaks english
Short history of the Faculty of dramatic arts (FDU) • The Faculty of Dramatic Arts was established by the decision of the rector of the Academy of Arts in Banská Bystrica on 7th October 1998 from the then Department of acting and directing that since the foundation of the Academy of Arts had been a part of the Faculty of Music. • In 2002 the Faculty recieved a positive evaluation of the Accreditaion Commission for our reworked proposal of the sutdy programs Dramatic arts – acting and Film arts – documentary production • Another problem of the Faculty was the spatial conditions. We gained the building of a former community house of the Surface Construction (on the previously picture) • Today the Faculty runs the study programs Dramatic arts – acting and theatre directing, dramaturgy and theatrelogy (Bachelor and Master study). Film arts – film documentary production (Bachelor and Master study), film dramaturgy and script writing (Bachelor study) • The Faculty od Dramatic arts started to develop a system of contacts with similar education institutions in Slovenia, Estonia and the Czech republic. In 2007 we will continue with institutionalization of so far informal contacts with the arts colleges in Poland, Ukraine, Serbia and Croatia
Activities of FDU • Theatre space in National Scientific Library called „D44“. D like „divadlo“ (theatre) and 44 cause offers in its small room 44 seats. The godfather of the theatre is a well known Slovak actor and a poetry lover Juraj Sarvaš. • FDU cooperates with Evangelical house, where we played Master theatre production and production from students of threatre directing and dramaturgy study • After reconstruction (august) we plan have third theatre production in our Faculty – theatre studio at Faculty of dramatic arts. • We have also TV studio, where we plan do TV production, dubbing studio, cutting rooms and some new classrooms. • Our students cooperate during their study with theatres, TVs´, journals, theatre, dance and movie festivals in Slovakia, Czech republic, Poland, Serbia, USA, etc. • The good quality of the study programs confirm several awards that the Faculty students achieved (Main award Grand PRIX ZDARZENIA – TCZEW in Poland – 5th International Festival, special award of the jury at TEMPUS ART 2004 Rožňava of the play Hamlet, award for the exceptional talent - Budapest Short International Film Festival - student Tomáš Krupa and his film Lovers, GOLD REMI AWARD in 2007 in the category of students films, video documentaries respectively – Ľubo Viluda – Ivan Kršiak, participation at the 4th International Festival od Dramatic Schools in Warsaw in 2007 – The faculty presented the play „The Wedding“ (Wesele) of the Polish playwright Wyszpianski. The faculty recieved an invitation based on the choice out of more than 100 registered plays of the dramatic schools all aorund the world. • And many more national and international awards

Short history of the Faculty of Music Arts (FMU) • In the area of middle Slovakia in the city of Banská Bystrica ten years ago the Faculty of Music was established as a part of the Academy of Arts. It offered a unique opportunity to achieve education in the classic musical art. • After the successful accreditation in 2006 the Faculty of Music of AU in Banská Bystrica became the second institution of its kind in Slovakia, institution that offers a complete academic music education to the future professional musicians in the context of European cultural and educational area. • The Faculty of Music is developing on the basis of cooperation with numerous reputable educational institutions. The Faculty engages in long – lasting collaboration programs based on various national and international projects – traditionally the Faculty organizes various workshops with its partner institutions in Slovenia, Poland and Czech republic, in USA, Italy, France, Hungary, Russia as well as Austria. • The Faculty of Music offers the talented young people a wide range of educational possibilities and incentives for their abilities when they search for the future fulfillment in today´s intricately structured, value disorientated, but open and free world.
Activities of FMU • The mixed choir of the Academy of Arts CANZONA NEOSOLIUM. During the 17 – year history of the ensemble, the choir successfully performed in concert not only at various national performances but also in many European countries – Hungary, Spain, Italy, Greece, Romania, Austria, Bulgaria, Poland, Czech republic and Slovenia. • The teaching is ensured by 47 teachers • In January 2006, FMU obtained the accreditation for bachelor and master study and in May 2006 the Faculty gained the right to grant the academic degree od ArtD. To the graduates of the full – time and external inceptor study. • The total number of the FMU AU graduates until the year 2007 is 118 • As a result of the international cooperation the Faculty as concluded bilateral agreements with art schools in Croatia, Poland, Finnland (Jyaväskylä Polytechnik), USA, Austria, Czech republic, France, Italy, Germany, Lithuania, etc. • The Faculty has 5 expert departments that ensured 19 study specializations (Department of keybord instruments, Department of orchestra instruments, Department of composition and conducting, Department of vocal interpretation, Department of general basis

Short history of the Faculty of Fine Arts (FVU) • The period 1997 – 2007 was for the Faculty of Fine Arts the time of gaining and strengtheening of its position among the art schools in Slovakia • We developed successfully our activities with respect to various grants and projects, especially in the field of information technology. • Through the developing projects we also prepared the Faculty web site, which became the place for presentation of the half – year researches, bachelor works and master works. • From the vast numbers of educational and artistic activities that are well documented in the FVU reports, we can conclude that the Faculty of Fine Arts has become an important artistic – educational institution in Slovakia. It can represent not only the region but also the whole Slovak education and fine arts abroad.
Activities of FVU • Faculty of Fine Arts has accreditation for the study programs: Audiovisual media, Graphics, Paintings, Sculpulture (Bachelor study, full - time, 8 terms) • Master study program: Free fine art (full – time, 4 terms) • Inceptor study program: Free fine art (full – timr, 6 terms, external study, 10 terms) • The Gallery Fx offers to the students a place for confrontation of their work, with those of other art colleges in Slovakia and abroad. Bides the exhibitions the Gallery Fx contribute to the enlargement and deeping of the knowledge of the FVU students about the contemporary visual art through other activities like organizing lectures and workshops, excursions to important international exhibitions. The Gallery Fx is run according to the program annually approved by the Gallery Council. The financial resources of the Gallery are secured from the government subsidies, grants and project activities of FVU AU, civil association ArtPlus and from benefactors. • As a result of the international cooperation the Faculty has signed bilateral agreements with the art schools in Poland, Finnland, Czech republic, etc.

Academic Library AU • The Academic Library users have the possibility to utilize three multimedia PC rooms with internet connection that are furnished with CD and DVD players, burner and scanner. The school hostel • The school hostel provides accommodation for students of AU of the category A. The students can use the social room where they can spend their free time by watching TV or by chatting with friends and colleagues. For the sport activities it is possible to ulitiue a room equipped with table – tennis. Through the wire broadcast our students are informed about the current news.
