  2. 1762 European colonies in the Americas began separating themselves from there European rulers Most famous of them were the British colonies on the Atlantic seaboard the colonies were obtaining their own identities What is an American?

  3. 1700s Colonies in the Americas began believing that being Christian was an important part of being an “American.” A hefty percentage of “Americans” still didn’t quite agree with it though English, Scotch, Irish, French, Dutch, Germans and Swedes were among the ethnic backgrounds of the new colonists Religion was tying into the leadership amongst the colonies and intensifying What is an American?   4. 1680-Mid 1690 Farther west the Spanish were spreading North from there Central American colonies They were spreading Christianity to the pueblo people King Philip IV and King Charles II were royal supporters of Spanish expansion the Spaniards made enemies with the Native people and could not expand much further Spanish Settlement

This put a lot of pressure upon the settlers of New Spain because of the increasing hostilities between them and the natives With the increase of violence and aggression both factions treated each other very poorly Society in New Mexico, Texas, and California

  8. mid-1700s The Spanish settlers of New Spain were spreading their reach throughout Mexico and into the California region and Texas region New Spain settlers had actually enslaved or converted a huge portion of the Pueblo people Spain was gaining more land and control in the Southwestern region of North Americas Society in New Mexico, Texas, and California pt. 2

  9. 1600-1700 The English colonies were taking shape and expanding along the Eastern coast of America and becoming more dominant. Thousands of new immigrants flocking to the colonies also helped with their expansion Now the English had created a formidable foothold in the North American continent The Chesapeake Colonies

  10. 1600 and early 1700 African slaves were being used to fill the ranks of labor mainly because the identured servant system was becoming to expensive and the amount of them were declining The Portuguese, Spanish and English were the main slave traders starting with Portuguese The slave trade was growing rapidly “Solving” The Labor Shortage: Slavery

  11. 1610-1670 The Europeans in the Americas discovered that the lands in the Americas were great for growing tobacco and that made agriculture a major economic factor The founders of Virginia whom were mainly Puritans had discovered that tobacco was a huge economic asset because of its high demand and how easily it grew there Tobacco was growing in significance in term of trade Prosperity in a Pipe: TOBACCO

  12. 1676 a rebel army of 500 men was raised by Nathaniel Bacon and started killing Indians and burnt James Town to the ground The colonists were treating the Native Americans horribly and basically taking their land Relations with the Native Americans grew increasingly worse Bacon’s Rebellion

  13. 1700- mid 1700 North Carolina was a flourishing tobacco colony. The technology used in agriculture was growing and developing. Enforcement of law on the African slaves became more sever and cruel which lead to frequent assaults on white man by blacks South Carolina Negro act of 1740 The colonies came known for producing tobacco The Carolinas

Late 1600s, early 1700s New England colonies derived their authority from charters granted by the Crown or Parliament Colony leaders were gaining authority and control over huge tracks of land in the new world Newly appointed governors were sent to northern colonies to enforce the fact that they were colonies and that they act more like it England was losing favor with colonists The Dominion of New England
