People of the colonies came from varied ethnic and religious backgrounds. 1.White Europeans: including 50% English and less than 10% each of French, Dutch, Irish , German,and Scottish. There were 20% African Slaves Religions included Puritans, Quakers and Catholics (All Christians). Also there were indentured servants and Native American Indians.

Brainstorm • Being form such varied backgrounds…What sort of problems might they encounter living together?
II. “ MC ME with Like the English” As the colonies made their government they borrowed ideas from their EnglishHeritage.

3. M=Mayflower CompactDate 1620 Before Pilgrims set foot on Cape Cod Massachusetts. They outlined rules for their new home. B. The 41 men who signed it agreed to consult one another about the laws for their colony and promised to work together to make the colony succeed.
4. E=The English Bill of Rights Date 1689 A written list of freedoms that the government promised to protect. 1 Individual Rights 2 Trail By Jury 3. No Raise in taxes without Parliament approval!
