  2. Perception Reaction • Response Time – The speed in which a person can respond to an event. • Response Time can vary from person to person and situation to situation. • It is possible to determine the distance a vehicle travels during the response time of the driver.

  3. Perception Reaction • Formula Used to Calculate Distance Traveled During the Reaction Time PR = (MPH) X (FPSC) X (RT) PR - Distance Traveled During Perception Reaction MPH - Speed In Known Miles Per Hour FPSC - Feet Per Second Converter (1.4667) RT - Reaction Time In Seconds (1.5)

  5. Perception Reaction Reaction Time In Seconds • It is a Common practice for Accident Re-Constructionist to use the standard reaction time of 1.5 seconds. • This is only an estimate. There can be no single number that applies universally.
