Process steps for designing rubrics Articulate/describe the behavior in general Develop clear descriptions of what it looks like when it is present Picture a high school student who embodies the behavior Generate range of phrases/capture so all can see Discern traits (3-6-neutrally stated) Develop criteria Exemplary, then Beginning for each trait Fill in Proficient and Developing Review for horizontal (realistic graduation of skill) and vertical alignment (within the trait) Gather feedback and refine Determine what is needed at lower levels (add’l rubrics?)
