New Life in Christ Gal. 1:1-4 1 Paul, an apostle, (not of men, neither by man, but by Jesus Christ, and God the Father, who raised him from the dead;) 2 And all the brethren which are with me, unto the churches of Galatia: 3 Grace be to you and peace from God the Father, and from our Lord Jesus Christ, 4 Who gave himself for our sins, that he might deliver us from this present evil world, according to the will of God and our Father: Gal. 3:26-27 26 For ye are all the children of God by faith in Christ Jesus. 27 For as many of you as have been baptized into Christ have put on Christ.

Gal 5:16-18 Two Ways to Live: Walk in the Flesh (Selfish, Sinful Conduct) VS Walk in the Spirit (Follow God’s Word) 16 This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh. 17 For the flesh lusteth against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh: and these are contrary the one to the other: so that ye cannot do the things that ye would. 18 But if ye be led of the Spirit, ye are not under the law.

The Spirit Not Teach Us to Follow Law of Moses 16 This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh. 17 For the flesh lusteth against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh: and these are contrary the one to the other: so that ye cannot do the things that ye would. 18 But if ye be led of the Spirit, ye are not under the law.

Gal 5:19-21 Examples of Walking in the Flesh (Selfish, Sinful Conduct) 19 Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness, 20 Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies, 21 Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God.

Sinful Attitudes—One Leads to Another • Hatred: Enmity, Despising Someone • Variance: Strife, Contention, Expresses Enmity • Emulations: Jealousy, Ill Will • Wrath: Anger Fits, Rage • Strife: Rivalry • Seditions: Standing Apart, Self-seeking Division • Heresies: Forming a Sect, a Formal Separation

Satan Promises Blessings—The Result Is Eternity in Hell

Fruit of the Spirit—Result of Union with Him, His Character, His Teaching • Love: Unselfish Spirit & Action Seeking the Welfare of Others • Joy: Delight, Rejoicing in Things Right & Good (Contrast with Momentary Pleasure of Sin) • Peace: Harmonious Relations • Longsuffering: Forbearance, Patience, Restraint When Provoked, Enduring Trials

Such Character Traits Fulfill Rather Than Violate God’s Law

The Spirit Gave Life thru the Gospel—Follow It! C. Follow the Spirit: Avoid Contention, Strife, Bitterness 24 And they that are Christ's have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts. 25 If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit. 26 Let us not be desirous of vain glory, provoking one another, envying one another.
