Tasks • Check you have the following posts: • Hardware and Software • Input and Output • Components of a Computer • ALL fonts should be a sensible size and colour. NO ALL CAPITALS. • All sentences should make sense – READ YOUR WORK. • Highlight or otherwise bring attention to KEY WORDS • Illustrate your posts with pictures.
Hardware and software • You should have at LEAST the following: • A definition of Hardware - Hardware is a physical component of a computer system. This means you can touch and hold it. • At least 3 examples of hardware with descriptions if necessary • A definition of software – Software is the applications or programs that control or provide useful functions on a computer. They are not physical. Software is simply a list of instructions. • At least 3 examples of software with descriptions if necessary.
Input and output • You must have: • Definitions of input and output • Input is information or data that flows IN to a computer system • Output is information or data given OUT by a computer system. • Some examples of input and output – what form could they take? • Some sensible illustrations
Components of a computer • You must have: • The diagram from the shared area. • An explanation of the diagram – it is a diagram which shows the main components of any computer system. A computer is simply a device which takes input and processes it in order to provide useful output. • Processing is the act of manipulating or otherwise changing data in a way which is considered useful. • Continue to the next slide for the CPU
CPU • You must have answered the 4 questions IN DETAIL: • What does CPU mean? • Definition. • What is the purpose of the CPU? • What is it’s role in a computer, what EXACTLY does it do? How? • How fast are modern CPU’s? • What is a CPU cycle? • What does the CPU cycle look like? Get a diagram! • What does GHZ mean? • What is a Hertz? How does this relate to a CPU cycle? • How many Hertz/Cycles are there in 1 MHZ • How many Hertz/Cycles are there in 1 GHZ?
