Who deceives us or leads us into temptation? Ephesians 2:1-3 As for you, you were dead in your transgressions and sins, in which you used to live when you followed the ways of this world and of the ruler of the kingdom of the air, the spirit who is now at work in those who are disobedient. All of us also lived among them at one time, gratifying the cravings of our sinful nature and following its desires and thoughts. Who deceives us or leads us into temptation? James 1:13 When tempted, no one should say, “God is tempting me.” For God cannot be tempted by evil, nor does he tempt anyone… God NEVER tempts us!

What is temptation? Genesis 3:1-6
Genesis 3:1-6 Now the serpent was more crafty than any of the wild animals the Lord God had made. He said to the woman, “Did God really say, ‘You must not eat from any tree in the garden’?” The woman said to the serpent, “We may eat fruit from the trees in the garden, but God did say, ‘You must not eat fruit from the tree that is in the middle of the garden, and you must not touch it, or you will die.’” “You will not surely die,” the serpent said to the woman. “For God knows that when you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.” When the woman saw that the fruit of the tree was good for food and pleasing to the eye, and also desirable for gaining wisdom, she took some and ate it. She also gave some to her husband, who was with her, and he ate it.

Key Point #2 Temptation is any situation in which we may be led into false belief, despair, or other great and shameful sins.
What are we asking God to do about such temptations? 1 Corinthians 10:12-13a So, if you think you are standing firm, be careful that you don’t fall! No temptation has seized you except what is common to man. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. keep temptation away from us
What are we asking God to do about such temptations? 1 Corinthians 10:13b But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can stand up under it.
What are we asking God to do about such temptations? Hebrews 2:18 Because he himself suffered when he was tempted, he is able to help those who are being tempted. help us overcome temptation
Key Point #3 We are asking God to keep temptations away from us and to help us overcome them when they come to us.
John claims he can’t help being an alcoholic because he was born that way. By making that claim, how is John actually accusing God of tempting him to sin?
God doesn’t tempt us, but he does test us. Give an example of this from the Bible. Give an example of this from the life of someone your age.
There are three main areas in which the devil, the world, and our sinful nature tempt us. Which do you think has the worst outcome? Why? Which do you think most people think of first when the word “temptations” comes to mind? Why, in your opinion, do we think of that one more than the other two?
