  5. Second National Communication of the Argentine Republic to the Conference of the Parties to the UNFCC. Vulnerability of the Coastal Zone 1- To determine the effects of climate change on the water level along the northeast coastline of the Río de la Plata, particularly the coastline of the Gran Buenos Aires area2- Assessment of specific changes in climate conditions in the area and on the occurrence of natural disasters3- Assessment of the occurrence of degradation on the coastline and river banks4- Mapping of potential zones of risk from results of climate change simulations5- Assessment of the relative importance of changes in climatic events, ENSO, and population settlements on the occurrence of natural disasters in the area6- Guidelines for the development of adaptation measures to reduce the impacts of changing climate conditions on local settlements and on the coastal lines of the Río de la Plata7- Regional socio-economic impacts of the C.C. OBJECTIVES AND EXPECTED RESULTS:

  6. Second National Communication of the Argentine Republic to the Conference of the Parties to the UNFCC. Vulnerability of the Pampa Bonaerense 1- Assess the relative impact of human action and climatic variation on the occurrence of floods and drought periods in the Pampa Bonaerense2- Determine the likelihood that climate change may indeed be causing increases in both the frequency and magnitude of wet-dry cycles in the area.3- Evaluate the extent of soil degradation in the region and identify areas of risk4- To determine the impact of the human action of region’s ability to adapt to extreme climate condition in the area5- To determine the need to regulate water resource exploitation and land use6- To achieve and adequate assessment of the sensitivity of water resources to climate fluctuations7- Regional socio-economic impact of C.C. OBJECTIVES AND EXPECTED RESULTS:

  7. Second National Communication of the Argentine Republic to the Conference of the Parties to the UNFCC. Vulnerability of the Agricultural Production in the Pampa Húmeda OBJECTIVES AND EXPECTED RESULTS: 1- To analyze the structure of agricultural production and natural resources use in the region 2- To identify the actual and potential contribution of agricultural activity to factors generating C.C. 3- To estimate the actual GHG production in the region as a result of agricultural activities 4- To evaluate the potential of agriculture to respond to C.C. 5- To identify and quantify the potential impacts of C.C. on the actual structure of production 6- To define alternative systems of production in the region to respond C.C. 7- To determine and quantify the socio-economic impacts of these potential changes in the structure of production

  8. Second National Communication of the Argentine Republic to the Conference of the Parties to the UNFCC. Vulnerability of the Hydric Resources of the Litoral - Mesopotamia OBJECTIVES AND EXPECTED RESULTS: 1- Historic perspective on the trends of the changing climate in the region 2- Evaluation of the relative influence of global warming, ENSO, and human action on documented flooding events 3- Maps of areas of risk of flooding and desertification (based on empirical data) 4- Assessment of the need for forestation in specific areas 5- Assessment of the effectiveness of irrigation and drainage practices in the region and the need to regulate these practices to reduce soil salinization 6- Evaluation of human settlements and land management practices and their impact of the region’s ability to adapt to the effects of C.C.

  9. Second National Communication of the Argentine Republic to the Conference of the Parties to the UNFCC. Vulnerability of the Patagonia OBJECTIVES AND EXPECTED RESULTS: 1- Evaluation of the adequacy of water resources in the Patagonia under current conditions and under projected scenarios of C.C. 2- Specific evaluation of the hydraulic impact of glacial meltdown and evaluate adaptation measures 3- Proposal for water resources management procedures in order to diminish the vulnerability of the region to C.C. 4- Assessment of soil degradation potential of the region and of vulnerability to a likely increase in precipitation 5- Evaluation of sustainability of current land use and land management practices 6- To evaluate the socio-economic impacts of C.C on the Patagonia and its potential for development 7- Development of a regional plan to adapt for changing climate conditions and to mitigate this resulting impacts on the province

  10. Second National Communication of the Argentine Republic to the Conference of the Parties to the UNFCC. Overall socio-economic impacts of Climate Change in Argentina OBJECTIVES AND EXPECTED RESULTS: 1- Assessment of regional and national social vulnerability to C.C. 2- Evaluation of cost of damages that could be caused by C.C. 3- Assessment of projected cost of mitigation and adaptation policies 4- Evaluation of adaptive capacity in Argentina to various impacts of C.C: 5- Identification of areas where adaptation and mitigation initiatives are lacking 6- Comparative analysis of mitigation and adaptation cost, and analysis of implication for argentine economy 7- To determine economic factibility of projected adaptation measures facing potential C.C.

  11. Second National Communication of the Argentine Republic to the Conference of the Parties to the UNFCC. Vulnerability of the Energy System and Energy Infrastructure OBJECTIVES AND EXPECTED RESULTS: 1- Evaluation of energy consumption trends around the country and the varying climate scenarios of C.C. 2- Determination of regional and national vulnerability to C.C. 3- Assessment of the environmental impacts of the increase in GHG emissions as hydropower is substituted 4- Determination of national energy infrastructure needs and costs 5- Identification of regions where mitigation strategies would be most effective, and estimation of expected costs of those measures 6- To evaluate possible markets for alternative sources of energy and energy efficiency programs 7- To determine the need for increasing the country´s energy infrastructure

  12. Second National Communication of the Argentine Republic to the Conference of the Parties to the UNFCC. Preliminary National Adaptation Programs and Regional Adaptation Plans OBJECTIVES AND EXPECTED RESULTS: 1- To develop an Adaptation Policy Framework for the preparation of adaptation strategies and policies against C.C. 2- To identify adaptation strategies in line with planned policy interventions 3- Portfolio of adaptation strategies to the impacts of C.C. that can be incorporated in national and regional development plan 4- Adaptation strategies to C.C. impact that are compatible with argentine sustainable development goals
