February 2013 With yet another edition of our E-newsletter we bring forward to you glimpses of CSR activities, as we at JSPL Angul, silently pledge towards a more women friendly environment. JSPL as an organisation considers women employees to be one of the most important assets. Besides knowing our rights it also becomes vital for us to be able to exercise them ,when need be. National Girl Child Day 24th January 2013 Ministry of Women and Child Development has been taking a multi pronged approach to address and reverse the trend of declining child sex ratio in the country. The objective of all these initiatives is to work towards ensuring that girls are born, loved and nurtured and grow up to become empowered citizens of this country with equal rights and opportunities. National Girl Child Day Celebration Angul, January 24: Jindal Steel and Power Limited (JSPL) observed the National Girl Child Day with health and nutrition support programme with its land mark achievement of coverage of hemoglobin test and supply of need based iron tablets to more than 16682 girls through operation of ‘Kishori Express’. Hb testing of adolescent girls JSPL has been operating “Kishori Express”, a customized medical van in Chendipada and Banarpal block of Angul district with the sole focus of controlling adolescent anemia in girls and the resultant IMR and MMR in the District.
A step towards safe hygiene practices for girls! Construction of toilets at Jarasingha Girls’ High School- to promote safe hygiene practice for better reproductive health and controlling the rate of dropout among girls, in alignment with Millennium Development Goals towards ensuring Sustainable environment.
Encouraging girl child education- Good luck gifts for matriculation candidates Ensuring quality education has been one of the major aims in the CSR activities of JSPL. In that direction, JSPL has always been trying to supplement the efforts of the Govt. to improve the quality education through various initiatives. One such initiative is motivating the class - X students, particularly girl students of our periphery high schools and cheer them up to perform well in the ensuing Board examination – 2013 by providing best of luck gifts. Also it is an approach promote delayed marriage age among the girls for safe motherhood. Good luck gifts(geometry boxes along with special motivational gift of pens for Girl students) were distributed to 1124 students of 15 High Schools of core villages.
Chief Minister dedicates JSPL supported Ambulances to serve the People Of Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik dedicated two Ambulances supported by the Jindal Steel & Power Limited (JSPL) for public service during his visit to Paikasahi in Angul district on Sunday on 27 January 13 in the presence of Shri ArvindAgrawal, IAS, District Collector and Magistrate, Angul; Shri Dinesh Kumar Saraogi, Executive Director, JSPL, Angul, Sub Collectors of Angul and Athmallik and other district officials. • Jindal Steel & Power, Angul supported the District Administration by providing two sophisticated ambulances to address emergency medical care needs. • These two ambulances will be available for service of public at Industrial Police Station, Nisa and Police Station, Handapa in Angul district
Pedal operated Agarbatti making unit • JSPL, in another CSR intervention, today added the “pedal operated Agarbatti making unit” in its Rural Women’s Livelihood Centre at Golabandha Nagar, Badamahitala, Angul. The pedal-operated Agarbatti making unit meant to provide livelihood to village women was inaugurated by Mr. Uddhab Charan Kar, Project Director, District Rural Development Agency (DRDA) in presence of more than 150 women at the Livelihood centre, Mahitala R&R Colony. The incense stick making unit – a joint program by DRDA, JSPL and ITC Ltd under PPP mode – is another initiative of JSPL to empower women SHGs. JSPL has provided infrastructure and machinery support, while ORMAS is imparting training, skill building and up gradation support and ITC has entered in to a 100% buy back arrangement which will ensure regular flow of income to the rural women SHG members. The unit has started with 40 members and gradually it’ll be extended to a large cluster.
Pallishree at Jindal nagar The SHG-run store, Pallishree within the campus premises had some great beginning to boast of in the new year. The last month saw a whopping income of over Rs.8000/-! The shop sells various rural, indigenous products such as home-made snacks, jute bags, hand-made herbal body care products, savoury items and other household items . The shop is part of the sustainable livelihood initiatives undertaken by the CSR dept at JSPL, Angul, which aims at creating options of sustained supplementary income for the local community and creating market linkages for rural produce.
