Lester B. Pearson also known as Lester Bowles Pearson was born on April 23, 1897 in Toronto and passed away in 1972. He was a Prime Minister for the Liberal party. He was well known for his diplomatic sensitivity, his political acumen and his personal popularity. He got into the University of Toronto at the age of 16, and received a history degree in 1919. Lester B. Pearson also has a college and a high school named after him, due to his achievements. Who was he?
When Canada declared war in 1914, he volunteered to serve with hospital units sponsored by UofT. After 2 years, he was transferred as a pilot in war. He got many injuries after two accidents so he had to stay as a training instructor for the rest of the war while studying. He got a position as a secretary in the Canadian Department of External Affairs. He was very involved, he participated in a few organizations for example the establishment of the United Nations Relief and Rehabilitation Administration (UNRRA). Pearson than became the liberal PM after announcing his willingness to accept nuclear warheads from U.S. He was in control for 5 years. What work did he do?
Lester B Pearson was hated on by majority of the rich people, because he made them pay for people with low income. Although this seems unjust for the rich people, Lester B. Pearson tried to make everyone equal with good intentions. It wasn't in his best interest to go against the rich, he wanted all Canadians to be equal. Some people hated him for changing our flag and trying to hide our old traditions. Lester B Pearson was only trying to make Canada be more independent and wanted it to become its own Nation. He didn’t want Canada to rely on other countries for everything so old traditions had to be broken Why some people didn’t like him
He volunteered and fought for our fellow Canadians. He won many awards such as a 2 year fellowship and got into the Oxford University where he excelled in history. He was a professor at the University of Toronto for the history department. He was also very athletic and won his blues in Lacrosse and in ice hockey. He is also the greatest Canadian because he created provisions for old age pensions, medical care and generalized war on poverty, government assistant for higher education, technical and vocational education, redistribution of electrical districts and reformation of legislative procedures. He also won the Nobel Peace Prize in 1957. Why is he so great?
