    4. How to attract candidates from the EM The Challenge. For all SCHOOLS. Do nothing. Carry on in same way. Change.

    5. ATTITUDES For EM Would you consider teaching? What does it take? Are you prepared to give up? ‘WE can be a teacher’.

    6. ATTITUDES FOR SOCIETY Difference is threatening. Head above the parapet. Background. Fit/ Qualifications. EM don’t apply. ‘A Can Do Mentality’ required. Examples.

    7. What should HE/FE do? Range of access points at various levels (ladder approach). HE to target link with specific schools. HE produce with Careers Wales role model video/CD in 8/9 languages. Use of role models. Open days for targeted groups/ summer courses. Training for HE staff (admissions). HE set up Community panels. HE to approach Heads of EMAS. HE/FE to put on Iles level 6 courses and GCSE maths and English.

    8. What should schools do? Target students, track, monitor with after hours and holiday courses. Work experience in schools. Maximise language skills-Cilt. Maximise Re-Islamic Studies. Use the non teaching posts to develop staff-IIP-proportion want teaching. NoteWelsh medium is included- example.

    9. What should Careers Wales do? Work with Heads of EMAS. Work with EM pupils- 3 or 4 schools and then EM pupils in all schools. Use role models Use Careers Wales on line. Support Work Experience –Yr 10/11 and year 12. –schl placement. Work with school staff.- is it on the menu? Produce figures for intended entry into teacher training by ethnicitity. (compare over time with HE actuals)

    10. What should WAG do? Monitor figures and publish. Set challenging targets for HE, with penalties/ rewards. Use role models Continue with conference/training days- involving all admission tutors. Expand RTS and GTS with specific category EM Re look at NARIC brief and clarify anomalies. Continue to support variety of routes. Encourage GTCWales to promote EM. Encourage Teacher Awards to be more proactive in this field- Example.

    11. TARGET Certain Schools EM Above via HE links, Careers Wales Training for Admission tutors Links with Community leaders Use of role models Use of expanded RTS and GTS Through WAG targets.
