  1. Introduction to Med Term II Medical Terminology II

  2. Welcome • Welcome to Medical Terminology II. To take this course you must have successfully completed Medical Terminology I. • You will need to purchase or borrow a textbook “Language of Medicine 6th or 7th edition” by Davi-Ellen Chabner

  3. College Credit • This class is eligible for college credit through Chemeketa Community College at the cost of $30.00. Contact your teacher for the proper paper work and directions for enrollment. You must take the paper work to Chemeketa College before the deadline in November for fall quarter and in May for spring or winter quarters. The course is a 3 credit hour course.

  4. Grading Scale • Students will be assessed on a straight percent scale based on the total points earned during the semester. • You can track your grade online • Scale: • 59.99% and below=F • 60-69.99% =D • 70-79.99% =C • 80-89.99% =B • 90% and above=A

  5. Getting Started • Before moving into the assignment list for a chapter • read the chapter first • Read through all the charts, diagrams and illustrations • Make flash cards for all word parts and vocabulary words within the chapter and study the cards regularly • Go to the back of the chapter and read and (say the words out loud) pronounce the words

  6. Practice • Go through the flash cards for each chapter as many times as it takes for you to learn the word parts and vocabulary associated with each chapter • Once you feel pretty comfortable with the vocabulary then complete the assignments. • Practice defining the words at the end of the chapter

  7. Completing Assignments • Complete the assignments in order • Successfully completed all of the assignments for a chapter before completing the test. • Use your textbook as a resource • The vocabulary words at the end of each chapter have a page number next to them this can be very helpful when completing assignments.

  8. Completing Assignments • Use the internet to assist you with completing assignments. • Make sure the sources are reputable- universities, medical centers, and commercial websites are appropriate

  9. Case Studies • The purpose of the case study assignments is to provide you with the opportunity to practice explaining medical events to others. • Remember you are explaining the medical procedures to some one that does not understand the medical terminology. A dictionary definition will not necessarily provide an uncomplicated explanation of a medical procedure. • The directions for case studies appear at the beginning of each study. • You will need to use the internet to completely research each part of the assignment.

  10. Case Study work sheets • Some case studies have questions at the end of the case history, on these assignments you do not have to rewrite the information.

  11. Chapters • Chapters are not completed in order check the assignment list for the correct order. • Please proceed to the first chapter

  12. Tests • Each chapter is followed by an comprehensive exam, since the materials build upon one another you can expect to see terms that had been covered in previous chapters on the tests that follow. • The tests are times and can only be taken once and you can not preview the tests

  13. Chapter Order • Chapter 13 • Chapter 14 • Chapter 11 • Chapter 12 • Chapter 5 and 6 (one lecture) • Chapter 8 • Chapter 9 • Chapter 7 • Chapter 18

  14. Review for the final • A list of terms that will appear on the final have been provided for you to begin studying. • Study tip: make a set of flash cards out of this list and begin finding the definitions for each term
